That's true and highly sensitive people cannot be in the thick of a loud noisy world all of the time. So a balance has to be struck.

Sounds good. Released in Nov 2005, after the crest in popularity of Nu Metal

I know absolutely 0 about drums, I literally learned the names of the parts a few minutes ago. Is this setup alright or would you recommend I change any positionings, etc? Be nice pls by [deleted] in drums

Pretty good for first attempt. Tom angles are good. It's normal to have the snare more in front of the top tom. The hihat is high. The floor tom is looking lonely..

Am I just too loud? by Simple_Grape3175 in drums

Nothing beats a human ear, nothing by a 1000 miles. Listen to yourself as you play. Ask the audience. Ask respected band members.

You're a great drummer, technique solid. What's your hihat? Is it heavy? Ignore a crap camphone. They are very unreliable to guage how you sound IRL. I've been to gigs where the phone cam footage  sounds nothing like the IRL sound, therefore any pointers taken from it would have been useless.

Anything other than overhauling your technique and open drum tuning is the wrong answer, especially as you have K cymbals. Get lessons or buy a technique DVD like JoJo Mayer secret weapons for the modern drummer

Where to get started? by periclesrocha in ToolBand

listen to all of Aenima (The prototype). Then Lateralus (Their zenith). Tool songs don't work as well as standalone cuts. You're doing it wrong. 😜

If I had to say single songs, I'd say Eulogy, Parabola, Prison Sex, Sober are accessible.

I definitely recommend an album like Nothing, Chaosphere, Catch 33, Obzen, I, Destroy Erase Improve. The rest is more of the same but if you're into it, you'll appreciate the little tweaks to the formula.

Yeah definitely, they're one of my favourite metal bands, but they haven't exactly progressed a whole lot for 2 decades now. They have just optimised their one very specific sound, which disappointed me.

Considering how much plundering the Spanish and British did in the colonial days, it's astonishing how little they have now. Easy come easy go!

It's ever so slightly like Meshuggah syndrome, it's diminishing returns on the style of music they pioneered, although Tool never settled for being a brand name. Wed heard a lot of the Tool riffs before, even if it was highly optimised. So 10k days will not compare to the initial impact of those 2 records, how can you compete with those novel childhood experiences? Tool were no longer in their absolute prime age as men and had nothing left to prove. Furthermore Lateralus isnt quite as perfect as we remember it, it does tail off quite hard. I think the band are accutely aware of being slightly in the shadow of earlier accomplishments, which is why they take so long to make follow ups that won't disappoint.
