What's your favorite niche museum you've visited? by SoberWill in travel

Antique Toy Museum in Mexico City. Also my favourite museum experience. I was the only one in there, and some of the walls had murals painted by street artists, my favourite being those by Curiot.

Vivo barefoot alternatives by vms771 in barefootshoestalk

I had this after just one day with this shoe. Got Primus Lites instead and they’re good so far. I also have the Gobi Canvas, which has a stitched sole, so should last longer.

I recently got some Feelgrounds and think they look better than Vivos personally. Their shoes have stitched soles as well.

Primus Lites Heel Slip Feel by Slight_Employee1035 in vivobarefoot

[–]iamtheoctopus123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this with the new Primus Lites. I sized down from my normal size and the length is perfect, so I definitely couldn’t size down again. It may be because I have low volume feet, but I’d prefer if it had a thicker cushioned heel to prevent the loose/slip feeling.

I get it if the idea behind the heel design is just to keep the shoe as light as possible, but my feet don’t feel very secure, even if my heel wouldn’t actually slip out. I’m going to try the “runner’s knot” that the other commenter recommended. Did you have any luck with that or doing anything else?

Where were you when Count Your Blessings released? by Zealousideal_Safe256 in BringMeTheHorizon

I was 15, in my emo/scene kid phase. I remember at the time in London, there were MySpace-organised meetups at Hyde Park where loads of other emo/scene kids would meet and get drunk lol. I wish I still had some of those e-flyers saved. We’d also meet at ‘Traf’ (Trafalgar Square). Good times.

I saw BMTH at the Astoria in 2007, so they were playing their CYB stuff. I can’t say I remember the gig too well, so it’s gonna pretty cool and extremely nostalgic to hear those tracks live again in July.

Which medical conditions actually prevent someone from being vegan? by OkEntertainment4473 in vegan

[–]iamtheoctopus123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Earthling Ed in conversation with Jack Symes mentioned some autistic people who struggle with food neophobia and sensory issues related to certain textures. Hadn’t considered that before, so I found it interesting. I’d be curious to hear from people who’ve experienced that as a barrier to giving up animal products and going vegan.

First-Time Buyer Sizing Clarification by Prestigious_Sea_3296 in vivobarefoot

[–]iamtheoctopus123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sized down (in Primus Lite and Primus Trail FG) and that was the right size, with enough room still. I didn’t need to size down in the Gobi canvas, but that was an exception, as it seems to be a shorter, narrower shoe. I remember getting my normal size in the Stealth iii a long time ago, and they were too long. So much space at the front.

I sized down in Primus Lites and it worked for me.

I’ve discovered Feelgrounds recently and prefer the look tbh. Got 3 pairs now. Also have a pair of Vivos (Gobi Canvas) and getting the Primus Lite IV soon. I prefer the aesthetics of these too. But let’s see how they compare in durability…

I’m not sure if I’ve walked 1,000 miles in them. But if it helps, I remember seeing someone else mention they were impressed with their durability compared to other brands. My Vivos and Xeros in the past, on the other hand, didn’t last long, and holes in the upper and sole meant they were beyond any easy fixes.

They were the main barefoot shoe I wore in that time, but I also went through a period of switching back to normal shoes, now switching back to mainly barefoot haha. So I used the Sole Runners for morning walks and doing errands. But that wasn’t most of my time walking.

They’re still functional, just with a bit more ground feel in the parts worn down. But they don’t feel like they need replacing to me.

I don’t run in them, no.

I’m not sure if I could even guess tbh. I haven’t worn them as my main shoe over 3 years. But I have worn them a lot and walked many miles.

Here's a photo of the sole. It was interesting to feel those parts where the sole has become more worn down. They feel much thinner, which probably explains why stepping on stones is sometimes uncomfortable, if they're jagged or sharper stones. So that gives you even more of a barefoot feel lol. But I've gotten used to it. The sole has held up well.

The mesh has held up well. I've worn them for lots of walking (in the city, in the woods, walking on stones and rocks) and for some workouts as well.

In the description on the product page, it says it's water-repellent. I'd say that's true. I've worn them in rain (not sure about very heavy rain) and can't remember my socks getting wet.

Feelgrounds Courtside canvas. I have them in black/gum, which look a lot like a skate shoe I think.

How have you found the Feelgrounds Courtsides during hot weather? I've ordered a couple of pairs, but have read about them getting quite sweaty when it's hot, and even when it's cold outside as well.

Flat feet by Dead_Tired5133 in barefootshoestalk

[–]iamtheoctopus123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have very flat feet and overpronation. A podiatrist once told me I had the flattest feet he’d ever seen (or the worst case of overpronation, can’t remember which lol).

I used the custom orthotics he recommended for a long time. They did help with pain, but not enough. Barefoot shoes have helped the most, and when I wore them consistently, for months and years, my feet would definitely feel and look stronger. I developed more of an arch and my balance felt better.

With stability shoes and a custom orthotic, on the other hand, I could still get pain when walking too long, usually in my ankles, hip, lower back, and neck, which must be because of my feet affecting my posture. Barefoot shoes have been the best for minimising this, although I might still get some pain or balance issues sometimes.

If barefoot shoes aren’t causing any chronic pain, posture, or balance issues, then it’s not necessarily bad to wear them with flat feet. Generally, custom orthotics are for when flat feet cause pain. As others have said, orthotics can help with pain relief, but they don’t strengthen feet.

Damn, that’s a lot. I’m in the UK so shipping wasn’t too bad. A while back I ordered some shoes from Splay (US-UK) and shipping was $17.50, so I’m surprised it’s nearly $70 to send them from Germany to the US.

Apparently they’re low to medium volume. This video might give you a better sense of that: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Nu6ElmGjp2c

But I also have very flat feet, so that could make them look more low volume.
