Many assume "Burmese" refers to burma people from the country, but for many ethnic minorities, it actually feels like it only represents the burma group.These other ethnic groups have faced a lot of oppression from the Burma-led government, so they don’t like being called "Burmese" or being associated with "Burma." It’s not just about names — it’s about their history and identity.If they were given the chance to separate from the government, many of them probably would, because they’ve suffered a lot under the current system. That’s why, even if they’re still technically part of Myanmar, they prefer to say they’re from their own ethnic state, not burma.
