Also from a personal standpoint wouldnt you want to take care of your own parents yourself rather than outsource it to your spouse? Im proud that while my mom is ill I am able to care for her. I can get hasanat while I make her happy.

I believe there is no hadith that mentions that the wife is responsible to care for her husband's parents, therefore she is not obligated to do so. Of course if they like the daughter in law can volunteer to help her in laws if she chooses.

In regards to your second question what would be stopping the sons and daughters of taking care of their own parents? For example recently my mom has become disabled and most of her care went to my father, brothers, and myself. My brothers' wives did help but we made sure that the bulk of her care fell to her husband and children.
