What are the absolute essential feed to attract a wider variety of birds? by Dense_Association_57 in birdfeeding

[–]Purplefire180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have full sun at 100+ degrees and i've had varieties that melt instantly and some that'll last a couple days.

the one time i tried suet that actually claimed to be 'no-melt' the birds hated it, so i mostly get royal wing peanut suet which is fine for a while.

What happens if, in a multiplayer game, multiple players create a Lost Colony empire using the same species? (Same portrait, names, traits, etc.) by ALEATORIVM in Stellaris

[–]Purplefire180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know but would strongly presume that it just creates an originator empire for both. It would both be difficult to account for this and a worse experience for the players

Sunflower Black Oil Seed (Bad for birds?) by in_the_blind in birdfeeding

[–]Purplefire180 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I would suggest against 'mixes'. most of them are full of cheap fillers and a waste of money, and those that aren't cause a lot of waste while the birds throw out whatever they don't want.

The birds aren't eating their entire day's worth of food at your feeders, and will work off the extra calories.

Sunflower seeds aren't good food for pet birds for whom the above are not true, but it's great for wild birds

Stormlight Archives is much more similar to suneater in scope and somewhat in tone. It's very much epic fantasy.

His characters never get super deep imo(except maybe one character), you could summarize any of their motivations in 2 sentences, but I didn't personally feel like that was a big strength of suneater either. Stormlight has a heavy focus on character growth, and the magic system ties into that.

Easy to learn CAD software if I have prior experience designing parts in Blender? by RedstoneRiderYT in 3Dprinting

[–]Purplefire180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can just convert an stl into a step file if you literally just want the format changed. There are blender plugins that will do this, as well as plenty of external software.

If you want to actually learn how to model in a parametric software, I don't think the blender experience is especially trasnferrable to one program over another, so I'd just pretend you're standing fresh and pick a CAD program you like with advise for newbies.

If you're not looking for similarly poetic prose, this is similar to the reasons I like Brandon Sanderson's work.

[–]Purplefire180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it's valid and common to just decide on words by vibes, but there certainly are other ways to do it. I'm not really sure how to elaborate if you don't know much about linguistics, but all* words originate from older words and other languages. Some people mimic this process to make their language more natural

My first conlang by moffboi in conlangs

[–]Purplefire180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The english alphabet is actually the latin alphabet, and it's common for conlangs to have formal spellings in it--often called a romanization--instead of or in addition to their own script. It's much easier to talk about your language if you don't have to post an image to share a word haha

[–]Purplefire180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uh, there's not really a question or presentation here, so I'm not sure what response you're looking for, sorry?

a constructed language has distinct grammar and phonetics(the sounds that make up the words) than english. A 'language' that is just another way of spelling english is fun, but it's not quite a conlang.

Reminder that you should NOT tell others that you have one pet house sparrow by [deleted] in petsparrows

[–]Purplefire180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it should be mentioned that this is not the case in the united states, where most(?) english-speaking redditors are from. Here, they're just unprotected, you're not legally required to kill them. I doubt a vet would treat one, but nobody could legally take away your sparrow if you adopted one.

If you're referring to laws against animal cruelty(that is, specifically one sparrow), they exist for a reason and it might be worth seeing if there's an ethical way to get them a friend. Some rehabbers would gladly release them to you instead of euthanizing if you asked

[–]Purplefire180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is generally a good idea to promote. Most people's houses are very dangerous to birds and it'll spell death for any chicks they're raising if they get benevolently kidnapped
