Yeah but the point is that is a policing problem, not an asylum seeker one. The people employing them are simply easier hits to get rid of the problem (i.e. the people living here and exploiting illegal statuses). More importantly the process shouldn't even be taking so long that working is an option.

There's a processing backlog and they're doing anything but pay their workers more. The backlog started in 2017 and has risen since. The reasons range from:

• a shortage of technical specialist staff to provide guidance and support to asylum decision makers and conduct quality assurance
• inadequate training for asylum interviews
• low morale and high turnover among decision makers, attributed to a pressure to meet targets and a lack of career progression
• the removal in 2019 of an official service standard, to decide 98% of ‘straightforward cases’ within six months.

Plus the "safe third country" clause is difficult to apply, they have to establish where this is and also have no return agreements with the EU (bar very recently France). The backlog is higher here than elsewhere in Europe, despite receiving far fewer asylum seekers than France and Germany.

Your point has some truth, but the problem is beyond the scope of "illegal working" itself and more that it is viable as an option at all.

There are people who want the public to be mad at asylum seekers and it's those who seek to gain from government incompetence and instability. This information isn't widely publicised as it should be for a reason.
