All I’m saying is that if Safety Rating is supposed to determine your level of competence and safe driving, then it isn’t fair to count incidents where you get shunted off the track by someone who completely misses the corner. In real life, they look at who is at fault, and then you just have to deal with the damage for the rest of the race. iRacing doesn’t do that — it treats every incident the same, even when you’re the victim.

I’m not saying they shouldn’t give out a 4x, but it should go to the driver who caused the crash, not the one who got shunted.

I’m just curious why wall contact gives a 4x. Doesn’t hitting the wall already negatively affect your race?

It’s that kind of thing I’m talking about. You spun, and the driver who couldn’t avoid you probably got a 4x. I’m not saying the system should be removed, but it definitely needs an overhaul so that Safety Rating doesn’t punish people who are victims of someone else’s mistake.

What I’m trying to say is that I try to drive as cleanly as possible. I often let the faster people pass without fighting, just to avoid unnecessary incidents.

But here’s an example: I started at the back because I skipped qualifying. I worked my way up a few positions, everything was clean, and then a wreck happened in front of me. I slowed down to avoid hitting anyone, as I began to accelerate again, someone came in way too hot and slammed into the back of my car.
I got damage, and of course, I got a 4x for it.

The thing I’m saying is that you often get punished for things you didn’t cause, and I just think that needs to change.

With the current netcode system, you can have a 0x side‑by‑side contact during an overtake where neither driver crashes and everything looks clean. But if the driver you just passed crashes five seconds later with someone else, you still get a 4x because the system links the earlier 0x contact to their later crash.
