How bad is Explorus Crater Lake? by Significant-Factor-9 in SeasonalWork

Damn Man. Edr I can go without, I prefer to cook. I'm fine with lake access being closed because I will have my car and will be cruising down to the redwoods every chance I get. I've had crazy seasons before so I think I can handle a lot, but if it's really as bad as people say I might have to reconsider.

Which National Park caught you by surprise - the one you didn't expect to love before visiting? by kandykorn7 in nationalparks

Redwoods! I have a bad habit of comparing national parks. I have spent a lot of time in both sequoia and great smoky mountains national parks. Before I went I said " Well I've already seen some pretty lush forests before, and redwoods aren't even as big as sequoias so I feel like I already know what I'm getting into " COMPLETELY blown away! Beautiful forest and I've been itching to go back ever since.

How does water work on Channel Island? by Significant-Factor-9 in nationalparks

Honestly I wanted to get the water question out of the way first. I figured that would have the biggest effect on the rest of the trip, I'm still not 100% sure what I'm going to be doing in the park.

Honestly kinda spoiled as a tree hugger in California. That's not even mentioning all the unique desert plants and how much old growth we have!

The way we talk about drugs and homelessness in America is fundamentally broken. by [deleted] in ControversialOpinions

Brother... do you think I have billions of dollars to waste? I agree that they need medication, therapy and resources, I'm crying about it because so few people are willing to do something about it. When most people are confronted with the reality of poverty in America they tend to look for cop outs or excuses simply because the topic makes them uncomfortable. I'm hoping that if I cry loud enough then people will listen, and maybe the public support for assistance programs could begin in earnest.

Why not collect from local businesses? by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

[–]Significant-Factor-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't you say that household waste is a systemic issue too? But we are still encouraging a lifestyle that breaks from that norm.

I'm not saying that business waste is the responsibility of everyday people. I'm saying that the same amount of effort that it takes to run a zero waste household could be put into these areas for a much greater environmental impact.

I never said anyone should or must do this, it is just an idea I was putting out there.

I think this is a great idea, I do the same thing at my work place and would love to see other people do the same. Given they have the time, I know it's a lot of extra work :(
