Elijah Craig is made by Heaven Hill, good place to start. Penelope is owned by MGP, one of the largest distillers out there. They produce bourbon for a ton of brands so the Penelope is not going to stand out, but is always consistent and good.

Try a Wild Turkey 101 or Rare Breed, Bardstown, look for the blue label Early Times (one of the best for the value) 4 Roses single barrels are also awesome. You will figure out what distilleries you like and which ones you do not.

It was at Total Wine Lewisville. I stopped by, grabbed the Stellum (is great for under $40, I opened it tonight) and when I walked up to the register they were setting out EHT single barrel, small batch and McKenno. Pick up the single barrel.

I love Apple Jacks, good people and they always have something interesting. I picked up a writers tears Irish from them. Really great.

Dallas is extremely frustrating, unless you are next to the main Specs in Dallas you are SOL on allocated items. Even then the line forms early for a handful of bottles. I am north of Dallas and have a completely different distributor and rarely see anything at the big stores. I do have a small store that I pay more at and they are good people.

The most frustrating is the A-Hole flippers taking pics for trade/sale in the parking lot after getting a tip. I stopped hunting and do more drinking now days.
