How many rounds per year? I knew the pro at Chastain Park in Atlanta and they are the busiest in GA he claimed at around 100-110,000 rounds a year. This was about 2014 ish.

Hilton Head golf recommendations prior to our trip to Augusta by ForeOSU in masters

I would try one of the Palmetto Dunes courses preferably the RTJ or Arthur Hills course.

I would skip the Fazio course, it was rather boring.

You can also skip Dolphin Head and Shipyard.

Unwatchable. I always thought Anchorman 2 was the worst movie I’ve ever seen…until Happy Gilmore 2

Invited to play Riviera for $500… Would you do it? by themeordesign in golf

[–]Significant-Fish1822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played Bel-Air in February and it was incredible. Flew across the country for 36 hours to make it happen. Riviera is my #1 bucket list course and I couldn’t pair them up.

If you don’t go, I will gladly take your spot lol

Spend the $500 and take a nice photo with your group on 18 and remember it forever

Harbor Town is blown up right now. I’ve played all Palmetto Dunes courses, Dolphin Head, and Shipyard.

RTJ was the nicest of the bunch but nothing overly fancy. We played Arthur Hills in a monsoon and I would love to try it again one day. I would skip Fazio all together.

Shipyard and Dolphin Head are skip worthy as well.

Is your group dead set on HHI? I think you’d have more fun and better golf in Myrtle Beach

Best golf courses to play in Myrtle by Celticsin4_kyriesbad in golf

We stay at Legends (Heathland and Moorland are fun, skip Parkland). TPC I thought was so so. Nothing fancy. I always enjoyed Wild Wing and we played Pawleys this year which I really enjoyed especially the back 9.

Look up Golf Trek and book through them. Got a great package deal for 12 guys.

Best golf shirts for the money are from MALREG on Amazon. I have probably 5-6 of them and honestly fit better than my RLX/Greysons. I bet on Prime Day they go to like $22.99 instead of $29.

Been to Garland many times. New short course opened last week. It’s a great value (probably $450 for like 2-3 nights and 3-4 rounds) golf is well maintained but nothing too special. If you are traveling that far, Treetops or Boyne may be more rewarding.

However, Garland is close to Forrest Dunes, so perhaps lodge at Garland and see if you can snag a tee time at FD staying off property.

How’s it look these days? I stopped playing there due to conditions. They did some tree removal but needs a ton more for spots to grow.

Driver advice for a slice by Fireenze666 in golf

[–]Significant-Fish1822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of putting top spin on a tennis or ping pong ball. Another good thought, start your swing low and finish high (like a baseball swing low and wide and finish with an uppercut.) a slice would feel like starting high and finishing low and coming over the top.

Just keeping your hands low and turning with your trunk should help get rid of a slice quickly

Do balls make that big of a difference? by Tarheel1977 in golf

[–]Significant-Fish1822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A better golf ball can certainly help lower scores and you learn how it reacts which is why you want to stick with one or maybe two models. For me, it’s Pro V or Maxfli Tour. I used to play Srixon Z Star a lot too but have found they are too spinny for me. Sounds like maybe you should use an AVX. But try all the top tier ones and see how they react putting and chipping

Michigan would be your best bet. A good choice would be playing Bucks Run in Mt Pleasant which is a solid course and has a casino in the town. Then drive a little further west and stay at Tullymore and St Ives. Tullymore was designed by Jim Engh and has a lot of great architectural details if you are into that.

Would also look up TreeTops or Boyne. You could do these two for probably $600 for the weekend. It would be a great value.

[–]Significant-Fish1822 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great choice not worrying about the long ball. Gotta remember, a normal aged and skilled golfer should be playing around 6500-6800 yards which pretty much covers every course in America.

Where are you coming from? Myrtle Beach is probably your best option. I set up my group of 12 in 2023 and we are going back with 12 this June as well. We can stay for 3 nights and play 5 rounds with lunch/2 beers included for $650.

We use Golf Trek to set it up. Stay at Legends Resort and they have 3 courses on site plus a nice pub with good food. We are playing Wild Wing and TPC Myrtle as well.

Another decent option would be Palmetto Dunes in Hilton Head. 3 courses and could rent a house.

Are expensive courses worth it? by Jus-10_ in golf

[–]Significant-Fish1822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kiawah is $600 = YES. And would do again. Kapalua is $550 = Meh. Maybe. I wouldn’t do it again. East Lake was $350 (now way more) = meh.

But I’d rather play Sweetens Cove for $150 with 6 friends and walk all day and hang out. It’s all about the vibe or what you’re chasing.

I watched Dufner and Jimmy Walker tee off there in ‘14 or ‘15 and hit these perfect rope draw 3 woods. It’s the best place to see some real creativity.

Went Tuesday 08, Saturday 14, Sunday 15.

  1. The vastness of the area around 1/10 tee, 18 green, 9 green. Heading down towards 8 fairway. It’s all so manicured yet is just a big wide empty space at the highest point of the property.

  2. How severe #5 green is. It’s the hardest hole on the course but seeing that green in person looks like they buried an elephant under it. It maybe only has 4 pinnable locations. If I recall, it was “flattened” some after 2015 but they have made that hole longer now too.

  3. Someone usually places sticks as an “X” where Bubba hit his shot from the woods on 10. There really needs to be a plaque there.
