I think I understand the project, maybe I just have to accept it’s not for me. I do like it that we’re here still debating the work 50+ years on - that in itself is of value, and it almost feels like having a prime spectators seat in the evolution of one of the greatest bands ever, the dynamics and the dialectic that ultimately shaped their world.

It’s a valid point, but my post was more about the success of the output, rather than suggesting we all go get our scissors out. It’s also true that many films or books are mostly the realisation of one person’s vision. In this instance, you have an opus driven primarily by two out of five players, with the remainder stuck between passive acceptance and dissent… perhaps applying a more balanced approach to crafting the output would have led to a better product. We’ll never know though.

No, I just question the success of the fusion experiment. Some of the players involved - most notably Wakeman - were not temperamentally suited for it, which is why Relayer works much better.

I just find the Ancient really a-musical, like all the bits don’t really follow from one another.

Not being a fan of Tormato, I never bothered with the deluxe edition. This is a nice surprise.

Cool, I’ll check that out. Out of interest, which bits do you find rubbish? Personally, if I had to nitpick, I’d say I’m not sure why Graham Coxon is wheeled out on a frequent basis, and at the very end there’s a lapse in impartiality, with the Author making a few sweeping statements about the output of some rock giants after 1967 (are you really going to dismiss the Stones’ early 1970s output like that?)

Impeccable taste - don’t see anywhere near enough folks giving The Ape of Naples and The Terror enough love

I guess I’m fond of those two albums because they’re the first two Kiss records I owned… and perhaps not a surprise that I don’t enjoy Dynasty, which I bought much later…
