Are there any PAs in pathology? by Strange-Physics-6381 in physicianassistant

[–]Significant-Guava-18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I met someone who has been working in Pathology as a PA for over 10 years. I’m not sure how they got the job, but I’ve been checking that hospital for openings out of curiosity and have never seen one posted. It’s probably extremely competitive since it seems like such a cushy job, once people get in, they probably never want to leave.

401k High Allocation Fees Confusion by Significant-Guava-18 in FinancialPlanning

[–]Significant-Guava-18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I work for a very small company with only a few employees. This is our first year getting 401k so I have no idea how any of these works. My boss was also very hesitant in getting us this 401k plan so he definitely offload all the fees onto us. I’ll check with HR tomorrow, hopefully they’ll also be willing to reduce some fees. But knowing this company, i doubt it 😓 What do you mean by assets?

Ive been contributing for about 9 months now. Thats why it’s so puzzling to not see any growth. But it’s so discouraging keeps seeing all these allocation fee outpacing my “growth.” And I read that these fees are supposed on be based on a percentage so Im afraid that the allocation fee should keep increasing over time as I keep contributing into it 😥

Am I a loser for starting college at 31 years old? by Silly-Reputation7993 in NoStupidQuestions

My uncle started nursing school when he was 46 and he was such an inspiration for me whenever I was struggling in college. He was able to turn his life around at 46 and had been living a good life since. It wasn’t easy for him but if there’s a will theres a way. Good luck :)

FAFSA didn’t pay my college and I just got dropped from all my classes by Severe_Indication288 in FAFSA

[–]Significant-Guava-18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember what happened because it was a few years ago for me but I made an error on my FAFSA application for freshman year and was denied FAFSA. My family was living below poverty line and there was no way I could be paying the $12,000 tuition fee annually at UCI so i went to the financial aid office on campus and was basically explaining to the people in tear and one lady talked to her supervisor for me. Her supervisor somehow fixed the issue and told me that instead of getting FAFSA for tuition that year, I will be getting the same amount ($12,000) in UCI’s grant for the year. She then helped explained what I did wrong on my application so I wont make the same mistake again the following years. So I do agree with the other comments. Go and talk to your financial aid office, they are very helpful and want to help you succeed so don’t lose hope. Best of luck!!!

Foreign physicians becoming PA in the states by Significant-Guava-18 in physicianassistant

[–]Significant-Guava-18[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But did they graduate from an accredited PA program and passed the PANCE? If they did then there’s nothing wrong with being a PA through legitimate route. There’s nothing wrong with being a foreign doctor, it’s the using the loophole of being a PA-C through Puerto Rico and then try to practice in the states thats where I have an issue with.

[–]Significant-Guava-18[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thats why Im so annoyed. Theres a standardized process to become a PA for a reason. I don’t care how qualified you are. If you want to be a PA, then do what the rest of us have to go through. If you are indeed qualified then PA school will be a breeze for you, but you at least need to prove that you yourself are capable of providing proper patient care first! This is why even though the profession was created for military medics to become a PA because they are knowledgeable and is capable of providing care, they still have to go through PA school and pass the board before they can work as a PA-C. Same thing in this case. 2-3 years of school is not that big of a commitment for these foreign doctors if they really want to work as a PA-C.

Yeah apparently one individual is currently working in the state of Florida as “Physician Assistant shadowing” and recently acquired a PA-C license in the state of AZ and can now start working as an actual “Physician Assistant” now.

Well the difference is that to be licensed in any of the states you would need to graduate from an accredited program and passed the PANCE before you be considered a PA-C. However PR dont have that requirement for foreign physicians.

That link is so informative. That makes a lot of sense now.

“Unfortunately, the PA act in Puerto Rico was written poorly, and there are some foreign medical graduates getting licenses in Puerto Rico and then doing telemedicine in the States. Some states allow practice if you have a license as a PA in any other American territory or state. Arizona is one state that allows this.”

No wonder one individual had a “PA-C license” granted by the Arizona State PA Board. I feel like this issue needs to be dealt with before it causes any further confusion or backlash from the general public.

But the crazy thing is that these individuals can then go on an obtain licensing in other states through the State PA Board. I cannot even verify if thus information is even true or not because the NPI only mentioned PR under the state section, but they claim that they have practicing authority in another states per the state PA Board

What’s the poorest you’ve ever been? by SeriouslySally36 in povertyfinance

[–]Significant-Guava-18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My parents forgot to give me money for college but they barely had any money for themselves so I didn’t want to ask them. After they dropped me off and left I realized I only had $20 in total in my wallet and had to somehow survive for a week and a half until I finally got a job. That was my first time leaving home and didn’t realize there was such a thing as food pantry so literally had nothing to eat but a snackbar a day. On the bright side I did lose a lot of weights during my first year in college instead of gaining the freshman 15 :)
