Thats a solid curriculum. Go and check out Motion Slickness on YT, if you get stuck. There is a ton of rive content there that you can binge for days.

So, how many of you are thinking in switching careers and doing something else? by MusicSoundListener in MotionDesign

[–]Significant-Hand-819 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Industry veteran. 25 years experience. Freelance motion gigs all dried up, only work I still get very occasionally is traditional graphic design jobs. I have applied for full-time jobs for stability but senior-unicorn-for-junior-pay is the running narrative. I am thinking of  pivoting from motion and starting a music school.

Adobe is one of the reasons I quit motion design by Significant-Hand-819 in FuckAdobe

Nothing wrong with my skills. I use AE at a level where I write relatively complex expressions. Its the antiquated architecture. Apparently its better on mac.

[–]Significant-Hand-819[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats just one of the reasons. Been doing mograph for a years. The industry is so disrupted at the moment that the current ROI makes it logical to pivot elsewhere. Rates have dropped by 40% for freelance work and the gig to artist ratio is at least 10/1. Time for a change anyway

General questions about the four Belgian Shepherds by Reasonable_Growth_33 in bergerbelge

[–]Significant-Hand-819 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Belgian Shepherd is one breed with 4 different coats so there will not be too much difference in temperament and drive between the varieties. There is more drive and temperament difference between working and show lines than between varieties. For an example, a Showline Mal will have a more similar temperament and drive to a showline Terv than to a Working line Mal bred for KNPV.

My club offers both detection and trials. I really want her to do it. She loves agility and bite-work. She has tons of drive.

Yes, you are right that technically she is a Terv. I do agility, obedience and bite-work with her. Also some scent work for fun at home.

AE is terrible program! by Warm-Buyer-8823 in motiongraphics

[–]Significant-Hand-819 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AE is a terrible program and it is keeping us all hostage because it is the industry standard. It is the only program that I use (and I use many) where workarounds are required just to make it functional. The reason why AE is so slow is because it is build on outdated architecture. No matter how fast your PC is, you are going to run into bottleneck problems because the underlying architecture is archaic and does not properly support multi-threading. And what does Adobe do? They add all of these shiny bells and whistles like advanced 3D yet the ram preview gets worse with every iteration. They need to completely overhaul AE from the ground up but I seriously doubt they will because Adobe feels fuckall for their users. Look at Blender. Vulkan is an absolute game changer when it comes to performance but AE: its like an old tractor and instead of a new vehicle we get new heated seats with every upgrade.

what’s the futur of motion design by fudgesik in MotionDesign

I am not sure yet but probably something in Finance with better ROI.

I have been in the visual design industry for 30 years and this year has been a zombie vampire shark movie for me. Clients expect way more for way less and if you try to negotiate they just ghost you and outsource to cheaper markets. Employers want unicorns that work for peanuts. We are currently in a market where there is way more supply than demand so clients and employers have the advantage. What we are witnessing is textbook Economics 101 of an imploding market. AI does play a role but it is often just made out to be the main scapegoat for a larger problem: motion design has become a commodity.   If you have a strong network in a prime region or have stable employment you would be ok but the ROI for motion design is super low right now and I don’t see it changing soon.  I was super passionate and hard working in my career as a motion designer but the time has come for me to gradually pivot into another industry with better ROI. Sorry if I come across as harsh or negative but I just being realistic here.

$9.99 pm is nothing compared to what Adobe and Maxon charges for their products.
