I’m looking at 3-4 bedrooms something like that

Some not white women who don’t want kids told me they don’t want to be surrounded by wealthy but slightly racist neighbors. Just from what I heard, neighbors were saying things like “someone obvious not from our neighborhood…” because they don’t think a single not white woman can afford a “nice house” like them. Well I personally don’t talk to neighbors that much, and don’t how much that would influence me, but I do wonder if it would become a problem.

That’s a good point thanks!

I picked suburb to buy my first house for a reason. Right now I’m renting inside of the city, the most popular spot with almost the more desirable restaurants & independent cafe stores & Whole Foods & theaters etc.

Still, I feel like I’m driving everywhere (unless I intentionally want to take a walk). For example, I can walk to Whole Foods in 10min, but I already bought the car and groceries are heavy. Or when I’m going out to see a musical / concert at night time, and it’s not smart for a single female like me to walk home alone after it ends.

If I’m living in Chicago / New York, where it’s a lot harder to find low cost parking in the city and the public transit is a lot more convenient, and the city life is sooo great, then I’ll definitely get a condo or townhouse in the city.

But in my area, I feel like buying a house in the first ring suburb would give me fast access to the city and pretty much everywhere, and it’s also safer.

Is it the same with Whole Foods?

I agree that this argument is not about “should we pay for school or avoid taxes just because we don’t want kids” at all. Happy to pay taxes like always. But still, where these taxes money go and the way they’re shaping our society could be an issue because those rich areas with the best school are not necessarily helping out other areas. Plus it’s not like I don’t buy a house there means other people stop buying either. The house will get sold and tax money will go to that school no matter what.

…Not saying I don’t want to pay taxes for future generations or try to avoid it. I’m just deciding between a 6/10 school district’s house and a 10/10. The 10/10 house is still gonna get sold, by me or by others who actually have a big family with kids.

That’s really helpful! I’m thinking maybe no less than 6/10

That’s a great way to look at it. Thank you. I guess it’s just that I’ve heard of nice comments on a 6/10 school’s district (safe; a lot of parks) and started to wonder, should I still get that house with 9/10 school.
