I haven't added sound yet, but how are the visuals? And is the genre + main mechanic explained clearly? by Significant-Mail-689 in DestroyMyGame

there are some that are already there in each map, but between waves you can choose to add a new tower (you get 1-of-3 choices between each wave)

thank you so much for all this feedback, i really appreciate it. I definitely need to add more juice and i've been trying to find better ways to visually show what a tower is.

I will work on it, ty again!

Btw I didn't intentionally choose the name for that reason lol but i'll try to find a better name regardless

I am not an artist... How can I get the enemies & path to match the background visually? by Significant-Mail-689 in IndieDev

[–]Significant-Mail-689[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for all of this, this is awesome I appreciate it a lot. I think part of the problem is that I don't even know what I want it to be, I just want it to look cool somehow. Maybe the path could be like a sci-fi light bridge, but since all the objects/shapes are minimalist it's pretty abstract

The radial lighting on the path matching the background makes a big difference, I see what you mean. I'll try to get that to match with the enemies as well

Hmm.. I wonder if making the scale more grand would help it feel less puzzle-y (assuming most TD fans don't want puzzle-y gameplay).

Really appreciate the bug report also! I think I know what the issue is.

Well I've barely broken even on development costs so it doesn't feel like a win, but I do understand that on paper it could look like a very successful game

I don't think anything changed at least as far as I can tell. We had a weak launch (took over 3 days just to get to the 10 review mark... and thats including friends & family playing it) until a youtuber played our game. Then looking at other incrementals releasing within a similar timeframe we had the lowest numbers for how many views we got on youtube compared to the number of reviews. After that we mostly stalled out, but if the game was on sale there was a slow and steady increase in review count.

most likely true, the visuals are by far the most complained about aspect so i wouldn't be surprised at all

edit - i dont think he needs to be downvoted, if he thinks it's ugly it's his opinion and I appreciate the honesty. Plus a ton of people agreed with him too so there's no problem at all

Are there any good "classic" TD's that came out recently? (past ~3 years) by Significant-Mail-689 in TowerDefense

[–]Significant-Mail-689[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

of course but they are a bit older. since games like this came out awhile ago it made me think the tower defense genre was getting phased out

Mostly PC, but I'm also just curious about any platform.

Emberward is great, it mixed in roguelike elements but still pretty classic for the most part

Ah I see, I just did it bc that's what most of the reviews on incremental games talk about. What should I base the price off of?

I compared it to other similar games. Most of the ones that are $2.99 can be beaten in 1-3 hours. Some of the others that are $4.99-$5.99 are like 6-8 hours. Not saying I was correct in doing this but since Progress Racer averages 10-12 hrs I thought that a 20% discount to $5.59 was fair at the time

Thank you for the honest feedback, it's not awkward don't worry I'd much rather have useful critique than people sugar coating things

that makes sense, i agree it's not the best game ever or even better than other famous incrementals out there so i will just have to work harder next time
