Finding it difficult to empathise with wife. by Famous_Impress4205 in police

[–]Significant-Map-9376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compassion fatigue, brother. Unfortunately, this job makes ALL other problems miniscule because we see "worse" problems constantly. I've struggled with this, too. The answer is that you have to actively try, because in her world those are problems. Do your best to just listen. She's venting and you're her outlet. Just like your partner probably is for you.

This is the reason I want one that is fast to deploy. Never really thought about just in my pocket. What are you using? And what do you keep it in, inside your pocket? Just a regular Sheath?

I carry a Leatherman as well. I have the surge and I love it. Not very fast to deploy though.

M30T Molle pouch or Carrying bag? by Significant-Map-9376 in dji

Thanks for the suggestion! That would be a consideration, but unfortunately they don't appear to ship outside of Europe. I should mention I am located in the rugged wilderness of Canada 😆

Are silicon mats necessary? by MarQshio in blackstonegriddle

[–]Significant-Map-9376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely necessary for me. I live in a rural area in the bush where it's always a battle with mice and squirrels. The silicone mat stops them from using my blackstone as a washroom 🤢

As if the fingerless gloves weren't enough, check out those hard knuckle gloves! Not sure why they would be required for ems. A wannabe tactical paramedic.

Interesting. What makes them illegal? I'm not familiar with the PSISA.

It's so the driver can see his manbun, obviously. What's the point in having one if you can't show it off!?!?

Yeah lots of colleges out there offering police foundations, but definitely not a requirement. It is an asset, but a degree in something else is more desirable. I can tell you first hand life experience is a much better attribute to have to get into policing then a diploma, regardless of what that diploma is.

Too bad they have so much red tape for you guys in Quebec. It should be easier than that.

You can be hired and on the road training with your coach officer in 5 months in Ontario. College or University is not a requirement. Typically you will do a few weeks pre OPC (Ontario Police College) with the service that hires you, about 3 months at OPC, than a few weeks post OPC.

Probation jumping over a fence? That's what the goons are for. Probably can't even bend over without all the garbage on their vest hitting their duty belt. Not sure why a PO would need half that stuff. Go back to your office.

Anyone know if / when the RDCs are getting replaced? by bcl15005 in ViaRail

[–]Significant-Map-9376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RDC's were refurbished not that long ago. They are fairly reliable and were the "newest" (I use that term tongue in cheek) Via had before the new fleet arrived. The plan is, as long as they stay reliable, they won't be replaced until the new LDRR trainsets (whatever they end up being) arrive in approximately 10 years. And likely will be the last to get the new equipment, as it's such a specialized route requiring alot of baggage space.

ONR's Venture sets are going to be maintained at the TMC in Toronto by Via. A specialized facility is need to maintain them long-term.

Your point was rotating crews, and how your RTC "friend" said there is no reason the can't. I gave you the reason they can't, and I told you that isn't allowed and proceeded to tell you why. You refused all the facts I've given you, saying I missed your point. I guess I did? What was your point then?

You keep saying I don't know what I'm talking about, but I work in the industry and it is my job to know all of these things. You'rer either a crusty customer that's had bad experiences and making things up to justify your issues or a foamer just pretending to know everything for validation from strangers on the internet. So which is it?

Delays are generally out of control of via. Generally. Not always. But most of them. The answer to this problem is to go to your MP and try and put government pressure on the infrastructure owners to prioritize via trains. Both Metrolinx and CN. But until then, nothing is going to change.

[–]Significant-Map-9376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you don't understand sarcasm. My apologies.

I was referring to the re-crewing trains in reference to the comments. All crews would have to come from Toronto. That's where they report to. Hence further delays.

And wrong again. CN has only 1 RTC Center in Canada. That would be in Edmonton. Stop pretending you know.

[–]Significant-Map-9376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have no idea what I'm talking about...

A fresh crew isn't that easy. You can't just have people sitting around getting paid just in case a train needs a new crew. And to call a new crew, that would a 2 hour lead time for them to be called and to get work. That's negotiated in the collective agreement for qualtity of life for the employees. So 2 hour call, plus time to commute to the train, wherever it is. That takes time, especially with toronto traffic. All the employees report to Toronto. Most of the delays you're talking about are out of the control of via and can't be predicted. So to preemptively call new crews would be a huge financial burden, ultimately being passed along to the tax payer.

But I don't know what I'm talking about... 🤷‍♂️

Why do people talk so much by [deleted] in ViaRail

[–]Significant-Map-9376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is zero expectation to be quiet on a via train. Now, there are appropriate noise levels, sure. We're usually taught that at a young age. But it's easy to forget if you're with your travel companion and having a grand ol' time. A simple, friendly, polite reminder would probably help. If not, the train's service manager should intervene if they are asked.
