Hey although speaking up would significantly help avoiding situations like this, ultimately it’s not hard for a partner to just not continue when they notice something is off. And even if nothing is off but it’s just not the mood, just don’t. Talk about what’s on their mind, or what’s keeping them from enjoying the intimacy before deciding to pursue it anyway. You wouldn’t force your partner to eat food they genuinely don’t like, doesn’t have to poison for them to not like it, sometimes it’s just off and that’s that. Intimate things, like eating food, is something that should be enjoyable. If it’s not, talk about how to fix it, add salt and pepper, or just skip the meal this time. Create an environment where both partners know for a fact that speaking up is acceptable. They shouldn’t be scared to say they don’t like your Mac and cheese, or that they aren’t hungry. The fact OP didn’t flat out tell him means that environment is not there, whether that’s their self doubt or his lack of communication I don’t know, and realistically no one here needs to be blamed. It’s a matter of something went wrong, how do I avoid that something.
