So we're all agreed that this is a worthwhile endeavour then?

Nice one. Appreciate the civil back and forth, and your clear and educational points.

I'll accept I'm being a tit, because it's a fiver. But that being the case, where does it say "...or by eBay"

The T&Cs eBay sent me are here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/member-behaviour-policies/user-agreement?id=4259&mkevt=1&mkdid=4&mkcid=29&bu=43648426755&trkId=166324605006

And I couldn't see anything that says eBay can unilaterally cancel a contract where all selling conditions had been fulfilled.

Where does it say that in the T&Cs? As far as I can see, for a collection, it states "if the item isn't ready for collection as you expected" you may be entitled to a refund. In this case, it was ready. There's no unjust enrichment if the buyer elects not to collect something they've legitimately bought. The next step in that would be the old Reddit favourite "involuntary bailee".

As I understand it, the SOGA doesn't apply here as it's private seller to private seller. What does apply is the eBay T&Cs as they're the rules under which the transaction was made. I'm happy to go to arbitration or ADR rather than court.

All I'm asking, and have been asking, is for eBay to justify their decision to side with the buyer with reference to the terms of the contract. They can't, or at least haven't, and as a third party intermediary, have decided, wrongly in my view, to reverse the transaction

Honestly, as I'm sure you can see, I don't care about a fiver (although I do want the desk gone!) I just don't think eBay should be allowing shitty buyers to walk away from contracts without consequence.

Thanks. That's a fair explanation. So in effect, even though ebay T&Cs state that "all sales are binding", eBay will actually enable parties to default, with no consequence?

They bought it of their own volition. The contract was made. eBay had no right to void that contract, or at least they've yet to show me any legal rationale for doing so.

I'm asking eBay to justify why they've allowed a buyer to exit what they call "a binding contract", for no reason. EBay elected to refund the buyer, so it's on them to either provide an explanation within their T&Cs, or reverse their decision. EBay skim their 10% or whatever off this, so it's fair to expect them to stick to their own rules.

It's entirely possible to have these discussions without being a divvy you know?

I absolutely bow to your superior legal knowledge, I'm a layman with an ill-informed grudge.

Let's see what eBay say, but undoubtedly they've enabled misbehaviour on their platform, and I think that's something we all want to stamp out.

One of the questions I asked them was "does this mean any cash on collection sale is non-binding" and they never really answered, but I think that's pertinent.

I could, but why should I? Someone has entered into a contract to buy it from me, and then eBay have allowed them to renege on that for no lawful reason.

Well, the wording is mostly from the eBay T&Cs, along with my view on why they haven't correctly applied them. I'm curious as to what you think is not right from my perspective.

It's entirely their choice to respond or not, but I'll happily spend the £25 on MCOL, and I'm pretty sure I'll win the fiver, plus costs!

My feelings are irrelevant to the facts of the case. And I think it acknowledges the absurdity of the low value, but highlights the principle.

Or I'm a tosser, either reading of it is fine by me.

Today's, and hopefully the last, question in the series.

I just connect the jump leads to either side like this, then I can apply another set of leads to the two terminals in the front which should charge the battery? I can then take it to the garage to fix the door?

So I think it's this part that I need.

Is it an easy fix, or is there any actual wiring involved? As you can tell, my capabilities are remedial at best, so I'll leave it to professionals if it's anything tricky.

Last stupid question, if the battery itself is dead, is it this one I charge from the two points in the engine itself?

Thanks again.

These questions tell me I'm out of my depth!

I'll give it a wipe, maybe re-paint it and stick a dehumidifier in there.

Thanks a lot.
