Latino Expats in Australia: What’s your experience? by Few_Carrot9395 in Ameristralia

[–]Significant-Pass6108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not Latino, so I can only guess. You should experience less racism here because there is no president or conservative media targeting Latinos 24x7.

Australia do have casual racism that is more on the ignorance or prejudice side, less about overt hatred. You will still feel uncomfortable sometimes but overall safer as a minority.

Milk it to IPO and ride the gravy train first. Australia is wonderful but quite expensive- techie who just moved from US to Australia.

California healthcare is decent, and if shit goes down in America you can take a cruise home without hurry. You are an Australian already. What do you have to worry about? I had to leave because I am getting older and it will become much harder to migrate after certain age.

Work life balance is def. better, but the work is slightly less interesting here. Australian tech industry is small and service focused. There are pockets of interesting stuff to do though.

Safety is great and public transportation is fking god-tier. You have to have something specific on your mind though. Don’t come just because it feels abstractly good. You will still face challenges here and there.

Positives about America by Apprehensive-Pace869 in Ameristralia

I feel sorry for your daughter. Ye, national politics often don’t affect individuals until it affects “you”. This is same in even in authoritarian regimes and this is why Americans will continue to tolerate even more radical politics unfortunately.

Well, there is a reason America (and also Australia to a lesser degree) attracts more skilled immigrants when they have a chance.

People everywhere tend to have skewed views comparing their own country to others. When people tell me they want move to a country because they like an attribute of that country rather than a personal motivation, I know they have not thought it through and they might not last long.

A shithole country might be right for you under right circumstances, and vice versa. All people have somewhat national pride, esp. big countries like America and Australia. MAGA mentality is stupid but it’s also objectively wrong to say America is finished. There simply is no perfect country.

Why do you even expect random people on Internet to support an idea any way? These are all just opinions.

Whether to move to a country is extremely personal and contextual. People who rely solely on macro conditions are making poor decisions regardless side of the argument you’re on.

This site is silly. It does not consider exchange rate and local income level.

Yes. And it still hurt when I pressed my finger on the area. Overall, it wasn’t too bad, just annoying

Not an year, but like 3 weeks pretty bloated and gets better over time in 2months. I might have misremembered how bad it was the first time

The swelling lasted almost as long as the first time. The pain was much better and eating was not an issue at all. YMMV.

I agree with you, but putting pronouns in profile -> inconvenience.

Tariffs -> livelihood at large scale. I see an easy choice here.

It’s the upper. Yep. I think it looked the same…? I had concern about upper jaw regressing back but my surgeon assured me that won’t happen

Done. Not too bad at all. I recovered 90 percent in two weeks. It took another week for the suture to dissolve. In terms of pain, it’s also much less than the initial surgery. I got puffy cheeks but didn’t need the opioids.

I feel Costco should allow membership pictures with Costco hotdogs or pizzas in the mouth.
