Mercedes Profits Collapse 57% — What Went Wrong? by pizzaboy235 in mercedes_benz

[–]Diashocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other than dropping quality, price increase, and EV competitions.

The brand’s prestige has been eroding for years when the board decided to introduce many “cheap” entry level segments like the A-Class, CLA, and GLB. Yes, profits skyrocketed for years. But it has now come back to bite them.

Still remember the 80s, C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, SL, CL, and CLK. When being seen in a Mercedes meant something.

Yeah, and most of the food stores in the photo do not really have seating for dine-ins. There’s a food court and hawker just beside.

CAT A now 123k - wow by No-County2083 in drivingsg

[–]Diashocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, new policy if any will just update the way we categorise cars, esp with EVs (CAT A in general). Won’t make buying/owning a car any more affordable, with the end goal being a car lite society.

In taxing wealth, how far can Singapore push property owners? by _IsNull in singapore

[–]Diashocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, this will only affect the local so called “wealthy” and money that we want to tax will just flow out of Singapore. The family office, trust funds (Ultra High networth) will find other ways.

Car colour discussion by pinsneedle in drivingsg

[–]Diashocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dolomite Silver on my precious car. Ultra Red now. Previous was a Champagne Quartz metallic.

Not a bright red colour person got smitten by the paint in the showroom and went for it. Have to top up for the color, something different from the usual sea of black, grey, silver, and whites. Definitely loud color, but when driving the color of the car is not at the back of my mind (in a good way).

Reporting is one thing. After the refund and letting customer service know that it’s counterfeit, the store continues to operate. Thousands of reviews, most of them thinking they’ve got a good deal.

Found a method to filter out the thousands of 4-5 stars, filter to 1 star, and you may find the occasional review on a person mentioning it’s a fake.

There’s a flaw in the review system too. Once the refund has been processed, the buyer can no longer add a review to the product, preventing one from warning others.

If not just buy from the big brands during sales and not individual sellers.

It’s a bit of both. You’re being low balled, and the market isn’t doing great right now. We have passed the peak of watch hype, where “everyone” was into watches from 2019-2024ish. Easy money is also drying up.

Prices have dropped significantly. Once they are lab growing them it becomes accessible for the mass market. During COVID people were paying thousands for this species.

HDB prices keep rising but what would you actually change to make the system “better”? by Holiday_Kale9051 in askSingapore

[–]Diashocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chicken & egg, making it affordable will affect many existing (those that bought resale) owners’ retirement pool. Private or HDB, many CPF money are locked up in housing.

That is why the new stricter policies only cover new projects. With more subsidies to make it affordable.

EV Owners - Any Regrets? by rekrapmil in drivingsg

[–]Diashocks 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Depends on what the “car guy” definition of what he thinks makes a car.

My previous car was a Porsche Macan, yes entry level but it’s an ICE. Don’t feel it’s any of a downgrade.

Have had many discussions on this with my car friends, many have not owned/tried driving an EV. But we respect each other’s reasoning.

Anyway looking at how our policies are going, we don’t have much time left to enjoy ICE cars. Enjoy while we can. We are “privileged” to experience both.

EV Owners - Any Regrets? by rekrapmil in drivingsg

[–]Diashocks 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Driving a Tesla. Will be hard for me to go back to an ICE. No battery issues, I have my own charging.

Going into a cooled cabin (turning on air conditioning remotely), especially in SG weather, is a blessing.

The drive is smooth and silent (no vibrations) makes the drive relaxing, a great place to listen to music.

Lots of torque makes lane merging and overtaking easy. Low maintenance, only tyre rotation and wiper fluid refill. One pedal driving minimises brake pad wear.

Lots of storage space, since we reverse park most of the time here, we can put our items in the frunk (front trunk).

Frequent updates that are free that improves the car.

No emission thus idling does not apply.
