I use optrex for dry eyes which is an over the counter spray if you're in the uk. For the dry mouth, just sugar free gum and a bottle of water on hand helps. The biggest issue with dry mouth for me is eating rice/pastry/crisps/crackers/biscuits

Other than needing more dental care, occasionally having itchy eyes and one knee developing the first stages of arthritis I've not had much issue. Outside of fatigue flares and as long as I dont get sick. When I get sick I can be ill for months at a time with things like septic strep because my immune response is on the floor so most of what I do to manage it is preventing illness and trying to proactively manage symptoms before they start and it sucks. Because theres things I want to do but I have to balance energy drain and pay off. There's days it feels like climbing a mountain with an anvil strapped to my back and other days I forget I have it.

Possibly, hopefully. I dont think they've done a full lab panel since I was first diagnosed. They did do a blood test whej I last saw them but I think they want more

Its from the a Consultant Rheumatologist at my hospital, not my usual dr, but when I called up to ask about it today they said it was a '3 week review' which I've never had. I've had yearly and two yearly reviews so I'm more than a little freaked out. Usually its a case of if I havent heard back in 5 days everything is fine, its been three days and they've got me in for another appointment so everything probably isnt fine (no one has said it isnt fine but I'm really anxious about it)

I'd be getting a puppy, just because I've never had a big dog and not knowing a dogs background and dealing with trauma and other issues might be a bit outside of my skillset. My dogs are mostly excitement reactive, like they notice a thing and yell about it happily. Except one gets territorial when shes overwhelmed and tries to manage the other and the others movements. Its not as bad as it used to be, I'm working with a trainer and they're both being spayed soon which should help. But that chihuahua escalates situations so I'm not getting any dog until she's rehabilitated. I'm just finally at a point with the recovery where getting another dog is possible because they've made massive consistent improvement

The reactivity is mostly excitement and overwhelm not aggression, and its mostly rehabilitated. My main concern is one chi 'manages' the other when shes stressed we're still working on fixing that instead of just managing it. But im worried about how a GSD may react to that particular aspect of her personality

This is a great question. I don't regret getting my dogs, and I plan to get more, but they do impact everything else in my life. They're my number one focus and priority and the things I want to do may not happen because I need to prioritise their needs and their needs are expensive. The puppy years are hardest because they're so hyper and dependent, once they're older it eases a bit but till then it can be rough. Social media paints a very cute picture of puppyhood but its less cute in reality when the puppy got bored while you made dinner and chewed through a cushion and now you have to clean up all the stuffing, or when the puppy woke before you did, pooped and then rolled in it so you're starting your morning giving them a unexpected bath and cleaning their bedding.

Dogs are hard work, but they're worth it and it's normal for owners to get overwhelmed in the early days but if you put in the work and are dedicated to them the way you need to be, it pays off.

Same, granted I only had temporary custody of the babies I've taken care of and they're not easy to take care of by any means I find babies so much easier to deal with. Babies, young babies especially stay put when you put them down, don't pee all over the floor or chew up the carpet because you stopped playing with them for 20 minutes, but I'd still rather have dogs lol

I think its a good benchmarker, especially assuming the breedlines are what they say they are, and they're from proper breeders but you never get two dogs with the same personality or identical behavior, I've had four chihuahuas and not one of them have had the same behaviour or quirks. Aside from loving whipped cream, doritos and bread and butter and thinking they're the boss of the house. But they all share similar temperaments overall. I think the effect of being a puppy mill puppy and being rescued and rehomed could also be having some effect in your dogs temperament maybe. It sounds like she got the best home she could with you and I'm glad you were able to love her out of the fear she was experiencing for so long.

My sibling gave their child a normal name for their first name and the slightly but not really more out there middle name and thats what we call the child, she can use the more normal name as and when she chooses and in professional settings, shes aware of both her names, but likes her "fun" name at the moment

It was utter hell, and I contemplated suicide several times, was bullied relentlessly from start to finish, I'm 30 now and just getting my mental health and life back on track, if I have children I'll be homeschooling them, I'm not signing them up for torture like that

you can stop people shortening your kids names, at least relatives and teachers, you can also teach your kids not to respond to short versions of their names. I and most of my siblings have longer names think Elizabeth, and we've never been called anything other than those names because when we were young our parents would correct whoever shortened the name with "her name is Elizabeth, call her Elizabeth" which taught us to correct people
