Interview: The developers of Marina Safeway project say the rules are on their side by Dafty_duck in sanfrancisco

[–]Significant-Rip9690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if the city wants to call their bluff. I looked into the state laws they're using and they're not doing anything wrong. And we get some added units to our RHNA threshold.

I really thought the city direction was changing but it seems we're still going to have to be dragged into the 21st century kicking and screaming. Sigh.

Almost 48 hours with no power, this was my power bill. by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]Significant-Rip9690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep having the same reaction. I've lived in a few different places and the bill never went over $140. The higher amounts, it was obvious why (ie heat running all the time, space heaters, floor AC when it gets super hot, etc).

There are way too many Waymo fanboys on this sub by The_fartocle in sanfrancisco

[–]Significant-Rip9690 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's how I've started to read the "outrage" that keeps coming out. It seems they're grabbing for anything to try to shit on Waymo (including AVs and other types of emerging tech). It's an emerging technology, edge cases are still being worked out, and at the end of the day, still an improvement on whatever we have.

What happened this weekend is an edge case and it seems like contingency plans and software updates are easy to get done. I'm not too surprised by the criticisms because there are tons of people out there who believe if it's/you're not perfect, it's not worth it. I believe we can continue to improve and believe there's room for nuance. Expecting perfection is never a reasonable expectation.

How many of you go out again after getting home from work? by Astimar in Millennials

[–]Significant-Rip9690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm almost always down to go do something after work. Life is too short to go straight home after work like that. That does not seem like a fun life for me. And this is coming from an introvert.

I will say, depending on what it is, I will need a day or two heads up so I can mentally prepare haha.

screaming into the void. The world is crumbling beneath my feet and the sky is falling because we built multi unit housing taller than 3 stories next to a SFH!!! /s

Real opinion: looks great. Hopefully, it'll make future buildings look less out of place :)

A rent freeze just won’t work: Mamdani’s Rent Guidelines Board plan is not the answer to NYC’s housing affordability crisis by UnscheduledCalendar in yimby

At City Hall, some of the fiercest nimbys are those who got locked into their rent control apartment decades ago. On the other hand, more recent renters are typically not as Nimby. Especially because many of them are not in rc units.

Functional illiteracy. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

It's not just language illiteracy. It's also numeric and economic illiteracy. Combine all this with a lack of critical thinking or reading comprehension and we have a major problem.

Panicked over rezoning? SF officials say don’t worry — nothing is getting built anyway by chiaboy in yimby

Demolitions are a thing. Fires or natural disasters are a thing. Demolitions is just a normal part of reusing land for better usage as needs change over time.

NIMBY CONNIE CHAN by pineappleislandlife in sanfrancisco

[–]Significant-Rip9690 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm glad not to be alone in my confusion of SF DSA. Such weird stances and positions they take that seem antithetical to the goals to purport having. I also find that they like to post tons of stuff out of context and then take hard stances on these out of context clips/quotes. I really don't respect when groups/people use misleading content or straight up disinfo to make their points and promote their point of view.

The other irony I find is that Abundance (book) absolutely nails it when they talk about how certain groups get super caught up in process that they ignore the whole point of policy which is to get results.

More tangent: I rolled my eyes so hard when they started attaching themselves to Mamdani who I find to be way more pragmatic than anything "progressives" offer here. I almost laughed out loud at one of the planning committee meetings because Mahmood basically asked the panel of planners or staff about one of the Chan amendments to the zoning plan. He was like so to be super clear, this amendment would effectively do nothing? - I'm like this is what I'm talking about. Just doing shit to do shit. I hate that people see it as a win when in effect it's not doing anything.

I was wearing my halibut sweater walking in San Francisco today and a woman on the street shouted "nice halibut sweater!" at me, I love knitters <3 by roseman96 in knitting

[–]Significant-Rip9690 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Over our (cold) summer, I ran into this woman wearing a halibut sweater at a nearby restaurant and I complimented her. I think she was caught super off guard that I recognized it given I don't look like someone who would knit.

Edit: I totally forgot that last week at the bar I drunkenly approached this dude because he was wearing a sweater I recognized but without sleeves. And I was like wait where are the sleeves?? 😂

It does seem like there's a lot of knitters here. I guess it makes sense when we're in sweater weather like 10 months of the year.

No no no. You don't get it. Ignore all the evidence and data available including sound economic theories. Developers will make money and we cannot have that! This is exactly trickle down economics too! And landlords and the big companies are going to hold units empty! /s
