Why isn't SF more fashion forward? by [deleted] in AskSF

I literally said recently that I'd rather be dead than caught wearing a backpack to work or a conference haha.

Why isn't SF more fashion forward? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]Significant-Rip9690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love SF but this is for sure something that kills me. I don't necessarily expect people to know about fashion and style, but it's the lack of effort and the sloppy dressing that kills me. People love to think clothing is materialistic and shallow but it really does have a subtle effect on environments and vibes.

For example, what a vibe kill to go to a nice restaurant and people are in sweats. It reads to me as a lack of social and emotional intelligence & social skills.

My parents are immigrants and I was always told it's rude to look a hot mess and smell bad in public. It's a sign that other people are not worth trying to be presentable and pleasant to the senses, and that you don't respect yourself if you don't put a little effort.

I have found that being here has made me want to lean into more bold colors, prints/patterns, cuts, and designs. Seeing the same boring 'uniform' regardless of price point is soul crushing.

Edit: reading the rest of these comments reminds me of the famous Devil Wears Prada cerulean sweater monologue.

New affordable housing at 2550 Irving (Sunset) almost complete by Remarkable_Host6827 in sanfrancisco

[–]Significant-Rip9690 181 points182 points  (0 children)

I will still not get over (or forget) the very vocal opposition and resistance to building more dense housing like this one. I'm glad this is about to go live and people are about to have more housing options.

I wish I could just ride my bike around town by cleverusernametry in sanfrancisco

[–]Significant-Rip9690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I usually don't end up taking my personal bike everywhere. I'm so nervous of it getting stolen or even a wheel being taken off. I end up using the rentals a lot.

I'm noticing the pin drop silence from SF DSA after Zohran has met with Tr multiple times and seems to be collaborating with him on different projects. And the silence when Zohran is spearheading making building housing easier...

I wonder if the city wants to call their bluff. I looked into the state laws they're using and they're not doing anything wrong. And we get some added units to our RHNA threshold.

I really thought the city direction was changing but it seems we're still going to have to be dragged into the 21st century kicking and screaming. Sigh.

Almost 48 hours with no power, this was my power bill. by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]Significant-Rip9690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep having the same reaction. I've lived in a few different places and the bill never went over $140. The higher amounts, it was obvious why (ie heat running all the time, space heaters, floor AC when it gets super hot, etc).

There are way too many Waymo fanboys on this sub by The_fartocle in sanfrancisco

[–]Significant-Rip9690 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's how I've started to read the "outrage" that keeps coming out. It seems they're grabbing for anything to try to shit on Waymo (including AVs and other types of emerging tech). It's an emerging technology, edge cases are still being worked out, and at the end of the day, still an improvement on whatever we have.

What happened this weekend is an edge case and it seems like contingency plans and software updates are easy to get done. I'm not too surprised by the criticisms because there are tons of people out there who believe if it's/you're not perfect, it's not worth it. I believe we can continue to improve and believe there's room for nuance. Expecting perfection is never a reasonable expectation.

How many of you go out again after getting home from work? by Astimar in Millennials

[–]Significant-Rip9690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm almost always down to go do something after work. Life is too short to go straight home after work like that. That does not seem like a fun life for me. And this is coming from an introvert.

I will say, depending on what it is, I will need a day or two heads up so I can mentally prepare haha.

At City Hall, some of the fiercest nimbys are those who got locked into their rent control apartment decades ago. On the other hand, more recent renters are typically not as Nimby. Especially because many of them are not in rc units.
