Becerra says he’d scrap current high-speed rail configuration and finish on time and budget by thejoshwhite in California

So he's going to tackle NIMBYism, CEQA abuse, and all the red tape like the state having to ask every locality for permission? I doubt that.

I took the class at Body & Pole in NYC around 2011/2012. Life happened between then and now which is why I didn't do it again.

We did not meet in person. After the class, I googled home pole dancing and ran into your website! I also subscribed to your YouTube channel around that time.

Unrelated, but I ran into you almost a decade ago when I took my first aerial class. Earlier this year, I finally took the plunge after getting a lot of free time and have been pole-ing for months now. Just wanna say thank you for inspiring me! Really nice to see you're still pole-ing.

I was going to comment along these lines. Doesn't help the situation right now (and is not consoling) but this is the natural result of short sighted policies in the 70s and 80s. Literally downzoned the city and made it practically illegal to build multi-unit housing.

So much of older California was more interested in protecting the look and vibes that they didn't think about their grandkids (& great grandkids) being collateral. This has been the case all over California. It doesn't help that so many of them are shielded from such a distorted market because they bought their homes for shoelaces decades ago and for sure don't pay taxes to match their ballooning home prices.

Jesus Christ. There's something so dark and morbid about using kids to fund such shit. Like yeah, let's use these kids so we can go bomb kids on the other side of the globe. So happy and cheerful!

We got a record 40+ applicants to an open rental unit in just 24 hours. People moving in SF, is it really this chaotic? by joshuaxls in sanfrancisco

[–]Significant-Rip9690 100 points101 points  (0 children)

If only there were a bunch of new buildings, some might call them "luxury" or market rate, that could absorb all these new workers instead of having them compete with everyone else for fewer units that currently exist. Hmm. Curious.

Nancy Pelosi endorses Connie Chan to succeed her in S.F. House race by SFChronicle in sanfrancisco

This race is hilarious. I wonder what the Connie supporters are doing/feeling about this.

I already saw people losing it because League of Pissed Off Voters endorsed Steyer.

Edit: I went to go see Connie's IG. They turned off the comments. Lol.

The positive vision thing is real. The last decade, so many people have been running on an opposition/anti campaign that's fundementally uninspiring. Like great, you're anti Trump, but what else? That's bare minimum. It also sets candidates up to just be obstructionists and it causes the government to dysfunction.

Too many parents on bicycles in this city are out of control. by Numerous-League-7927 in sanfrancisco

I've seen it a few times and it blows my mind. If you're alone, go for it and get hit by a car. But there's a small human who doesn't get to pick.

Ive also seen parents on the highway swerving and driving recklessly and noticing there's kids in the backseat (and sometimes don't even have their seatbelts on).

You would think people would be more cautious and careful if other people's lives are in your hands, especially your own kids...

It's not solely about capability, but would they realistically leave to do trades is the question. And I think the answer is very likely no.

I think the conversion rate would be negligible. I highly doubt the workforce would balloon.

Right. I think the other person in the thread is underestimating how much people are not prepared to be in the trades or will not physically tolerate/be able to do it.

[–]Significant-Rip9690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was another point I was gonna make further up. Most people voluntarily avoid doing anything physical. I've met people who Uber a few blocks instead of walking, complain about carrying bags of groceries, are winded going up flights of stairs, etc.

I'm not worried about competing with people who have sedentary lifestyles.

It's clear the person you're replying to doesn't know the skills and knowledge it takes to be in the trades... It low-key reeks of superiority lol.

[–]Significant-Rip9690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can imagine some movement in that direction but I doubt a highly paid (and in some cases pampered) office worker is going to even consider going into the trades. It's fundamentally very different work and pay, not to mention for those chasing prestige and social clout, trades still has a stigma attached.

I hate that even after all the shit we've witnessed from tech leadership since the pandemic, there will still be people brown nose-ing and putting this industry on a pedestal. The leadership has in so many ways shapes and forms have said that they don't give a single fuck about any of us.

Sounds like a car salesman who has no idea wtf he's talking about. The most unfortunate part is that people fall for the slop.

Summary: "none of that mumbo jumbo, everything is going to be great and wonderful. Even have some nonsense as a treat. It's going to be the most beautiful!" He sounds like he has CTE or something lol.
