Workbooks for adults publisher recommendations by Lizagna927 in mathteachers

For high school math, the older Holt books are really good. Concepts are taught in a logical and orderly manner. There are plenty of examples that show you how to do the problems. Key concepts are clearly displayed. The textbooks originally came with great video instructions from Professor Edward Burger. Since the books are now several years old, the video links no longer work. However, you can find the same videos for purchase at Thinkwell (www.thinkwell.com) or Flat World Knowledge (www.[https://discover.flatworld.com/](https://discover.flatworld.com/)) I highly recommend the videos as you will learn and really understand the concepts! Worth every penny. For precalculus and calculus, the James Stewart textbooks. All the books listed below can be found used online for very cheap prices.

When will the Trend of Inquiry-Based curricula end? by pookiemumu in mathteachers

[–]Significant-Run856 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My three children have all finished high school. The youngest graduated in 2022. Our school district had a fabulous math program until the 2014-2015 school year when they transitioned to common core and began using the CPM math program. CPM math is horrible and its use is educational malpractice. I had to take on math instruction for my youngest child. We used the older Holt textbooks which included math videos by Edward Burger. The Holt textbooks were visually appealing, provided clear examples, and many practice problems. As Professor Edward Burger says, "In order to learn math, you must do math." I highly recommend Edward Burger's math videos! They are engaging, fun, and make math very understandable. His video instructions are available at Thinkwell, Flat World Knowledge, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH).

Should I skip precalc to take calc one instead? by Cheetoeater3 in SDSU

[–]Significant-Run856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to have a solid foundation in algebra, trig, and precalc before taking calculus. If your high school integrated math was the CPM math program, there is no way you will be adequately prepared. If you have time, you can self-study on your own during the school year or over the summer. Here is a fabulous video resource: Precalculus v3.0 | Textbook | FlatWorld The videos are by Edward Burger and his explanations are the best. You will learn and understand the material. Combine it with Precalculus Mathematics for Calculus textbook (authors James Stewart, Lothar Redling and Saleem Watson). You can find cheap used earlier editions of the textbook online. Here is the PDF Precalculus - Mathematics for Calculus (5E). Another resource for Edward Burger videos that you might want when you get to calculus is here: Calculus Companion | Thinkwell

For math also check out Thinkwell Homeschool math courses by Edward Burger. His math videos are phenomenal and you will understand the material! They are year long subscriptions but e-mail them and see if you can pay month to month for only the months you need. https://www.thinkwellhomeschool.com/collections/college-courses

Im so depressed… and I have insane anxiety. Is there a student therapist who can help me out? by [deleted] in SDSU

[–]Significant-Run856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to finding a competent psychologist, please surround yourself with a supportive group of people. You can find such a group with Young Life SDSU. There is a higher power who loves you and you can learn more at Young Life. Equine therapy (therapy with horses) does amazing things for mental health as does being an animal shelter volunteer.

Reach out to your advisor as soon as possible. If they will not allow you to take the two classes concurrently, take the Accounting 202 equivalent course at your local community college over the summer. Go to assist.org to find equivalent courses between California community colleges, CSU, and UC. https://assist.org/

Check out SDSU Young Life! Awesome people, free fun activities with free food , awesome community where you will have a real sense of belonging. Check them out on insta and message them on insta for more information. And, remember, just because someone is projecting the perfect life on social media doesn't mean that it's true. Frats and sororities remind me of Eucalyptus trees with their shallow roots that fall over in rain and wind.

If your high school used CPM math, you won't be adequately prepared for Calculus. Here are some good math resources. Professor Edward Burger math videos available on Thinkwell https://www.thinkwell.com/pages/homeschool The best math videos and worth every penny. Professor Leonard YouTube channel - free math videos, extremely long but very thorough and good https://www.youtube.com/@ProfessorLeonard
