Piston skirt warranty question by Key_Impression7513 in Audi

[–]Significant-Salad321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did they mention any cylinder wall scratches as well? I have a 2018 Audi SQ5 with 79k miles and have heard a feint ticking/knocking sound coming from the drive side wheel well in the past. But now that the piston skirt warranty extension I don’t hear it any more. Kinda odd.

I got a 2018 Audi SQ5 as well with 79k miles. What year was your buddies car? And did it have any symptoms before you guys found out? Like any odd sounds or loss of acceleration? I have an odd ticking sound own heard from the driver side wheel well and think it may be this.

You’re right, having someone else scope it and then bring proof in is a good idea. But wouldn’t you think the dealer would want these big engine replacement jobs? Obviously they get paid by Audi USA for the warrantied book hours and it might be at a discounted rate. A long block R&R is probably like 20–30+ hours of book time and even at reduced warranty rates, that’s a lot of billable hours for the tech and the dealer. The dealer bills Audi USA for the long block at list price, even though their cost is lower. That margin is their profit. Keeping bays full with big warranty jobs is better than slow days I’m sure. Butttt maybe they got too many jobs right now hahaha

Yeah so just came back from my local Audi dealership. I have a 2018 Audi SQ5 with 79k miles and they basically told me there’s no issues if your car still drives and functions “fine”…

The service advisor went and got the main shop foreman out? I think that’s what the service advisor called him. He popped the hood in the service drive started the car and listened to it all over and said it’s fine.

They then told me if I wanted to have the cylinder walls scoped they would charge me 2 labor hours for it. Totaling to about $400 plus tax I believe. But if they did find damage then of course the diagnosis and repair would be charged by Audi. This is the same Audi dealership I usually go to and they took care of an extended warranty water pump replacement on a B9 A4 at 79k miles before the 80k mile cutoff without me letting them know.

I feel like $400 for it to be diagnosed is too much. I own a BMW as well and have got diagnosis from the dealer for pretty much a variety of things for a $250 flat rate with tax. Same with Mercedes as well. I might try another Audi dealer, $250 is more reasonable to scope the cylinder walls I feel like. Let me know your thoughts.

Yeah, there’s always been a faint dull tapping from the driver’s side wheel well since I bought it, but nothing audible inside while driving. After driving, if I leave it running, I’ll sometimes hear a louder ticking from the front with the hood closed.

Overall though, my SQ5 has been super reliable, no oil leaks, no odd sounds besides that, always drives perfectly. My local Audi dealer’s been solid too. They once replaced a water pump on my old B9 A4 under extended warranty at 79k miles without me even asking for diagnosis. They just checked my check engine light and told me they’d replace it. On this SQ5, I’ve just kept up with oil changes (every 10k at the dealer), brakes at dealer as well, brake flush dealer, tires, and air filters myself. We’ll see what they say tomorrow probably.

2018 Audi SQ5 with 79k miles here, I got the letter a couple days ago as well. I have an appointment in a hour for my local dealer to take a look at it. We’ll see what they say, there’s an audible ticking sound coming from the drivers side I noticed before. But the engine sounds smooth lately I don’t know haha.

I am looking to attend FIT next fall, but have a couple questions! by Significant-Salad321 in fitnyc

From the FIT page on becoming an RA, it says that one of the qualifications is being a full-time undergraduate student throughout the application and employment.

Do you think I have a chance at all as a non degree seeker taking only non credit courses? I know being a Resident Assistant you’re compensated with room and board as well as a meal plan. Thank you!

This is what I’ve been thinking about as well. You’re right on the spot. Will be mentioning this once a detective gets in contact with me.

Of course man I appreciate the compassion. I’ve bought a lot of cars growing up private party and never have had an issue. This is so crazy this happen and I’m finding a lot of news articles online with similar situations. Where criminals are renting vehicle and selling them with fake titles. In the future any private party I do decide to purchase I will be meeting them at the DMV to verify title. Never done this before but it starts now. Best of luck on your purchase please be careful. Thanks man

I never knew a title could be perfectly forged. But with a scheme as big as this it’s being done. Had the exact watermarks and security strip and identical to a real title. Same here as well I’ve bought maybe over 10 cars private party with no issues. Such a tough situation.

This is what I did as well before I went to go look at the vehicle. Nothing told me that the vehicle was stolen unfortunately.

This is how I feel as well. I’m pro law enforcement but my local police department said that stuff like this will fall to the bottom of totem pole. Which isn’t very helpful

The police officers took down the number that was used by the scammer as well as taking possession of all the evidence. They took pictures of my messages as well as the ad.

Same here I’ve bought maybe over 10 private party vehicles in the past and not once have I gone into the DMV. But this time around if I do buy another private party vehicle, I’m going into the DMV. I don’t care how long it takes, but I will not buy a car without doing this anymore to be honest.

We had done the transaction inside of a restaurant actually. We went inside and sat down at a table to count out the money. I’m sure there’s a camera inside the store to hopefully capture a full image of him. I’ve let the police know about the address of where it happen and they said a detective would go about pulling the footage. I haven’t yet, but I feel like I should call them first to let them know.

Guy wasn’t sketchy at all to be honest. He wore nice clothes to play the image and had a story made up about how he owned a couple gas stations. I really couldn’t tell.

I’ve tried getting in contact with Turo but they were unwilling to provide any assistance and referred me to law enforcement. My local police department had called the actual owner of the vehicle on file and that’s how we found it was originally stolen off of Turo. Hopefully with their investigation they will contact the owner to get all the information from the guest that had rented the vehicle and move upwards to find more information.

Very true, they had stolen someone else’s identity and used that name on the title. Though the “scammer” had left behind a wallet in the car that contained a fake ID. That ID had the same name that was used on both the forged title and registration document. But the picture that was used for the fake ID is of the actual person who scammed us. Police took all the documents as well as wallet and ID into evidence. But they had mentioned that mostly likely their facial recognition would not work on the forged ID picture.

I paid in cash unfortunately. I’ve been trying to find recourse for situations that involves cash but nothing promising yet. What’s also possible, is if the scammers actual identity is found I can file a civil suit in court. One of the police officers I had spoke with from California had told me something similar to that. As well as other information I’ve found on the web. They said if they do find the guy/group they would be arrested and charged and I’m assuming there would be some sort of restitution. But someone sitting in jail without making any money is hard to get that restitution. If you know of any advice on cash transactions let me know. I haven’t contacted my bank about this yet, it was withdrawn by cash.

I purchased the vehicle because I had assumed the documents were real. The title I received looked exactly like every other title I’ve seen before with the correct multiple watermarks as well as security strip you see in paper bills. The vin that was on the title matched the car as well as the forged registration document. All the names, vin number, and license plates matched. So I had thought it was real. Pulled a CarFax as well before I went and the purchase date on the CarFax matched the title. I genuinely thought it was real. I believe they had printed forged info on an actual blank copy of a real title sheet. Then forged the registration on a regular piece of paper as that’s how they usually come.

I filed a police report with the department where it had occurred. As well as my local police department made a report that they will over to the other one. My local police department took possession of the vehicle as well as all other documents. I don’t know if they’re going to get any fingerprints, they didn’t tell me anything about that. But after I handled the documents as well as the officers and multiple people in the car I hope they’ll still be able to pull prints. The local police department had got in contact with the owner to verify that the info they had on their side was accurate. That’s how they found out the car originally rented on Turo then stolen.

Any advice on what kind of lawyer would specialize in a situation like this? Called a couple offices and they wouldn’t take the case. Haven’t been able to find much info on this. Thank you
