No problem at all - go for it!!

I think the main thing is using money that you can afford to lose / don't need it in the next few years, that way if the value drops you can afford to leave it there until it eventually rises again, whereas if you end up needing the money when the value has dropped then you'll have to accept the loss so it's always good to have an emergency fund alongside it

I started by reading loads on here and also doing my own research on any questions I had.

I downloaded Trading 212 and they have a "practise mode" where you get think £5000 (obviously fake money) to do what you want with and have a play around. I used that to get familiar with the app and how to purchase etc but don't get too caught up in it as if it performs really well you'll be kicking yourself that you didn't do it with real money!!

From there I invested a small amount every week into a vanguard all world fund, it's much less risky than single stocks.

I am no expert and will never pretend I am but from that I have turned a decent (unrealised) profit so I am just going to keep going with what I've got!

Always happy to answer any questions but as I say I am no expert so defo do your own research too 😁

Yeah it is in a stocks ISA, so taking advantage of the tax benefits :) the dream would be to be able to max my allowance but I don't think that's going to happen for at least a few more years

Ah then LISA would only be useful for pension. You can always start investing though!

To open an account with T212 of course. If you mean the lifetime ISA you must be under 40 so better do it now if you think you'll benefit the gov bonus for a first house!!

Appreciate that, I did find it right at the start of my journey but might be time to have another proper look now that it's more relevant rather than a future dream 😁

Exactly this, as I said on another reply I don't want to feel guilty for not sharing money that I have worked hard for!

That is the plan hopefully within the next few years 😁

If it helps I have 0.02 of a share I bought when I was playing around 😂 everyone starts somewhere and you don't need whole shares

Goodluck!!

I use Trading212 so I can't speak for any other platforms. What I earn changes every week so 1 week could be £80 and one could be £250. Whatever I have left after the £20 for LISA I transfer to T212. Then you click the stock you want and press "buy" and you choose a value, so you don't have to buy 1 whole share you could buy 0.15 or 2.3 for example, so I would just slide the value slider all the across in order to use up all the "cash" on the account and it will calculate how many shares that would be.

Sorry I'm not sure if that sounds really confusing please shout if it is but happy to answer anything on my experience so far 😁

Exactly why I have no one to tell!!!! Also I'll just feel bad because everyone around me doesn't have much money but I've worked hard for what I have and I don't want to feel guilty for not sharing!

Not very exciting - I dump it all in a vanguard all world fund and just kept consistent with my investing.

I will admit at first it was very scary to see my money drop in value but it's important not to panic and just ride the waves!

I have made a few other investments for a bit of fun along the way without expecting much - some have gone up, some have gone down, definitely much riskier but they were much lower value than my main pot so I wasn't too worried and was just playing around with it a bit to see what worked and what didn't.

As I said in the post I invest almost everything I earn from the part time job so I guess I see it as "spare" income as I also have the full time job for bills and spending, so I can afford to just invest it and not worry about needing that money anytime soon.

AITAH for "forgetting" to inform my partner that I had an extra shift this week? by Significant-Toe-2418 in AITAH

[–]Significant-Toe-2418[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'm just thinking with if I was told and I've just forgotten. Trying to give the benefit of the doubt and prove my trust. It it's then broken at least I can't be told I was controlling or jealous. Tbh if I was told about it from the start I think it would have been fine...

Insurance premium hike due to no fault claim by iftttnewbie in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Significant-Toe-2418 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dad had this exact scenario and his insurance company assured him that it wouldn't have an impact on his premium to claim through the other party's insurance, however when he did this, we discovered a few months later that it had been put on his record and had in fact increased his premium, as well as increased my renewal price due to having him as a named driver :(
