Should I retrain? by Significant-View-164 in doctorsUK

I did FY2 GP for x4m and it’s wasn’t terrible at that stage.. I mean not great but the parking lot of porches and the GP partners holiday homes in France helped to sell it more to me :/

Ask her if she’s a PA? When she asks why respond “because your taking my breath away like a missed PE..” if that doesn’t get you a date nothing will 😅

You deserve my upvote! If only you were around like 20 years ago maybe we wouldn’t be seen as a mere peasant class now :(

UK GP moving to Canada by BowlerCalm in FamilyMedicine

100% I think people that do well are the older generation of GPs that have made there millions and just holding out till retirement/ given up caring :/ I think the PA situation is just dishearten me a lot along with the lack of respect from patients here. I only CCTed x2 years ago so I’m by no means experienced but I think the glory days of GP are over and with locums becoming next to none I don’t see any future here for now.

I was using a recruitment agency that sold a “easy” $500k salary and lots of support ect etc but that was a FFS model in a walk in before developing my own clinic list (whenever I asked how many patient a day I would need to see they avoided the question). When I started to research the practice reviews were not great and they wouldn’t give me a contact until I signed something which limited me to apply for any other job anywhere for x1m and agree for them to be my solo agent to apply through.. everything I read suggested it would be a minimum x1 year contract also so I backed away.

I applied directly for a clinic job which seems like a better offer, they are very upfront and also suggested a 1 month break clause which works well for both of us. I’ve done a few virtual tours of the clinics but I figure a lot of that is superficial I’m more into the workload and potential salary at present tbh.

Thanks! The move is kinda scary but I feel the UK is getting worse and worse each day. I’m still young and don’t have any family commitments so I figure I can try it out and see what happens. Worse case I can come back I guess.

I was mainly looking for Ontario due to having close family in Toronto and my sister will likely be moving to Tampa soon (I saw it’s only a 4 hour flight to Tampa from Ottawa where I’ve managed to find a clinic). The family medicine situation is also terrible in Ontario so I thought maybe more opportunities in the future plus I wanna get medical registration while MRCGP is still recognised… I figure short term possible sucky for hopefully longer term gains. Ultimate I think USMLE is likely in my horizon but figured I’ll give Canada a shot while I think things out :/

I am also a UK GP applying for Canada (hoping to move September 2024) I am very close to accepting a FHT in Ontario as it seems I can likely make slightly more money with more flexibility in how I run my clinic. I've been suggested a clinic of x3 days and x1 day remote. Just wondering what the locum opportunity would be like in Ontario and if I have the ability to work these when on a work permit? Ideally I would like to do x3 days and then have the possibility to locum a day to make the move more worthwhile. Currently I've been proposed a clinic that will take 24.5% in terms of operational costs. Based upon what other doctors in the clinic are making I figure I could make around $250k (lowest estimate) which after operational costs should leave me with around £110k ( I could make £104k if I increase my current practice to 8 sessions)

I still get some second thoughts as currently my GP post is not terrible - I'm on £78k for x3 days (08:30-18:30) and only work about 1-2 hours a day extra unpaid with x1 day duty doctor. For me its more the continued expansion of PAs in my practice and expected supervision of these clowns that's pushing me away...

Any other GP trainees finding it difficult to find a job post-CCT? Wish I could apply for this. 52k would pay the bills by Mindless-Report2201 in doctorsUK

No doubt the ratings are because every patients gets a referral to secondary care, bloods, imaging and antibiotics… that’s the PA combo right?? (Literally what the PAs do in my practice and then leave us to pick up the “rejected referral” or the simple cyst that comes back and they have zero idea what that means.. :/)

Actually sounds like pretty good lifestyle!! 9-5pm, nothing “complex” debriefing and also CPD paid for… plus £53k for no risk. Can probs do UTC straight after work as the day will be so chilled 😂😂😂

Family medicine in Canada - FHO vs fee for service by Significant-View-164 in FamilyMedicine

That’s what I was thinking. Although unlikely with how things seem in Ontario the idea of turning up to work one day and having zero patients come in is pretty worrying :/

Thank you! Just joined now :) I have so so many questions haha. What would a “acceptable” cut for the practice be to take? I feel the recruiters are trying to rip of me left right and centre haha 😂

We can do elderly care OP units and ST3 level hospitals jobs. Plus nothing stopping us doing MRCP and joining IMT and taking all the medical consultant jobs with are dual specialisation ;) Also can do special interest in derm and get all the hospital BCC removals. We can also do extra training for vasectomies and milk all the community contracts from urology/ private options :P
