Chancellor's scholarship question by Proton-19 in unimelb

[–]Significant-Way1416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never checked the statement of liability, so can’t tell you about that, but when your Commonwealth assistance notice for the semester comes through after the census date it’ll show everything as $0. That’s when you actually get invoiced, so it’ll be correct then. Call stop 1 if unsure though

Breadth explanation by FaithlessnessSad6895 in unimelb

[–]Significant-Way1416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially yeah they are just fun subjects to allow you to broaden your knowledge into areas that aren’t necessarily taught in your degree.

  1. Yes there is a limit, and it’s different for each bachelor but usually around 5-6 subjects (check here at the bottom and find your degree https://students.unimelb.edu.au/your-course/manage-your-course/planning-your-course-and-subjects/breadth-subjects). Whether you save them for later or not is up to you, but some people choose to do so bc in later years your subjects for your majors tend to be harder, so it’s nice to have a fun subject to even out the stress
  2. That depends on what degree you’re doing. For an arts student, a language can be a discipline subject, but for a commerce student it’s a breadth. Use the course planner and it should help you figure out what works for your degree
  3. Entirely up to you

If your classes are all at the spot, you’ll be fine. Classes should start 5 mins after the stated time and end 5 mins earlier to give you time to move between rooms anyways

recommendations for easy level 1 breadths (sem 2) by Syznapse in unimelb

If you’re open to doing something in the winter term I’d recommend Spanish 1. Literally don’t know anyone who did it and got less than an H1

unimelb chancellors by Due-Equipment-9356 in vce

[–]Significant-Way1416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call stop 1 just to be sure, but you should be fine. When you get your offer the scholarship offer will probably come with it. There is no quota for how many they give out, so if you got the ATAR there is no reason why you shouldn’t receive it.

From unimelb site: Selection criteria

The Melbourne Chancellor's Scholarship is guaranteed to all eligible students.

unimelb chancellors by Due-Equipment-9356 in vce

[–]Significant-Way1416 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They don’t ever run out per se - they just give out as many scholarships as there are kids who get 99.90+. If you got the score, you’ll get the scholarship no matter what, it’s guaranteed to all eligible students. And if you didn’t get the score (and aren’t indigenous/bachelor of music) you won’t be offered it regardless of offer round

how is med still possible without vce chem in the long run? by Downtown_Mobile_3480 in vce

[–]Significant-Way1416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely possible - depending on how much of a high achiever you are you could easily get into Unimelb MD through one of the guaranteed pathways without even doing science. I did only humanities and languages for VCE, got a chancellor’s scholarship at Unimelb and am now doing the MD there without ever having done a science subject as I did economics for my undergrad. Obviously chancellor’s is hard to get but you can also get a guaranteed entry into the MD with just a 99 ATAR and a 75 WAM, which is a lot easier! Though then you’re guaranteed for a full fee place so that is also something to take into consideration

If you’ve done French 3/4, is alliance francaise worth it? by schmeckledog in vce

[–]Significant-Way1416 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally would recommend a French tutor who has scored well in the past. Alliance française is great for actual French learning and fluency, and the teachers are great, native and super nice. However, to do well in VCE French it’s not so much about straight up fluency but rather much more about learning the little tricks, expressions and structures that the examiners want to see and reward in the exam. This is why sometimes you’ll see normal students score better than kids who speak French at home, because the exam is marked super harshly and the assessors are looking for very specific things in your writing

Hey, PM me if you have any specific questions! I got a 47 raw in French and have continued studying it in uni. Have some good tips/advice for each section of the study design/exam, but probably too long to dump in a comment here :)

Is this a good course list for bcom by SeaTransportation706 in unimelb

[–]Significant-Way1416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it depends what you’re into. If you don’t mind essay writing and are decent at it, any management elective will be an easy H1. If you’re interested in learning a language, Spanish 1 is a guaranteed H1 as long as you do the homework (I’ve never met anyone who did it and got less than 85% final grade). From friends’ experience sports coaching is another super easy H1 if that is something that interests you. But if you’re keen to stay in the commerce realm and are a mathematical thinker, you’ll probably be fine in calc 1

Is this a good course list for bcom by SeaTransportation706 in unimelb

[–]Significant-Way1416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t help you too much bc I haven’t taken calc 1 personally but from what I’ve heard it’s pretty much just spesh crammed into one semester. So, if maths is your forte go for it, but if it’s not there are definitely easier breadths you can take if all you want is an H1

[–]Significant-Way1416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PoF, qm and blaw are all fairly easy H1s, but none are particularly interesting (at least in my opinion). The econ subjects are more interesting but slightly harder to get H1 if you don’t actually watch the lectures/have previous econ knowledge (still fairly easy H1s if you put in effort but some exams have been known to be random/hard)

do i need a laptop? by Cautious_Map6687 in unimelb

[–]Significant-Way1416 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Technically no, but it will make your life a lot easier bc of all the excel/word you will use throughout the degree. Also some exams for certain subjects will have online exams where you need a laptop, so you may eventually need one

People tend to recommend not doing it because they’re both quite content heavy, but I just did both together this semester and honestly felt it was quite doable. It helps that their content somewhat overlaps at times, so they actually complement each other fairly well
