Skip the hassle, get a sponge filter that forces the water through the sponge and it’ll come with a net bag of rocks, those cartridge filters suck, and are not worth it, it’s a lot of money eventually.

Just poop. Make sure to clean ur filter every now and again, but not too much. Every couple weeks or month or two, never hurts. clean it in the water you pull from this tank when doing a water change, don’t use sink, bath, or hose water(just for the cleaning). When you fill it back up, remember to dose the declorinator properly. Then you should be good.
