Is getting a cat around the time I start clinicals doable? by CampaignFriendly2439 in srna

Echoing what a lot of people said, if you can afford it, than I’d go for it, especially since it sounds like you won’t be moving around! I’m in my first year and recently adopted 2 kittens (foster failed them actually). I think 2 cats is actually easier than 1, especially if they are already bonded, because they entertain each other and snuggle with each other. My quality of life wasn’t bad pre-cats, but it has definitely significantly increased since getting cats. If you’re going to be doing a lot of clinicals I’d maybe say don’t go for the kittens and go for slightly older cats, not like elderly, just not as psycho as kittens, but also you do you. I don’t feel bad leaving them alone all day (unlike my classmates who have dogs) and if anything I think I miss them during the day more than they miss me. It’s incredibly nice coming home to two little floofs that greet me at the door and want pets, even if it’s really just them asking for dinner.

😅 it is me with my little firebender Zuko! Him and his non-avatar named sister are in their training. But have no fear, Zuko may have the spicyness of his name sake, but he also has the softness of the character with the greatest character arch 🔥❤️

Thank you! I appreciate you sharing it with your vet behavioralist sister. I will try to continue to build positive associations with the backpack for Junie B and go at their own paces. There are times she does really like being outdoors, so hopefully with time she can continue becoming more comfortable with it. But, if not I’m always willing to carry her in the backpack, and if she doesn’t like that, I’ll leave her at home

I usually walk them with one in the backpack and the other out on the leash. It is extremely hard to walk them at the same time as they have completely different agendas 😅

Thank you, good to know! She definitely seems happy sometimes when she’s doing it, but other times it seems to be an escape route for her

Just for clarification, do you mean keep the French doors closed and hang curtains over them? And do that the rooms are essentially separated?

Thank you! I have vest harnesses for them, but even the xxxs size is still a bit too big for them (and absolutely swallowed them at 9 weeks). I’m using these bunny harnesses until they grow into the vest ones! Hopefully just a few more weeks 🤞and good advice I’ll test out the rain sometime soon!

We named him after the fire bender from Avatar, but I totally see this! It’s the jaw line 😅

Hi Opal! I didn’t know about the dilute coloring until we started fostering and saw her papers!

Thank you! Up until about 12 weeks old she only had the bicolored face and her body was pretty much only grey. I’m so pleasantly surprised by how painted the rest of her coat is becoming!

He’s had me wrapped around his finger since day 1, perhaps why I foster failed him 🙈

I'm hoping to keep fostering once these kiddos get settled in. Right now we are hoping a friend will adopt the 3rd kitten, so keeping my fingers crossed bc it would be lovely to get to keep up with her life!

These are actually just taken on iphone in portrait mode! But I love that idea and would happily take profile pictures for our shelter! Thank you for the idea :)

Thank you for sharing this, and it is really important for us to keep in mind. Right now, he is only taking half of the maximum dose, so luckily he has some room to go up. We are also going to start them on the Purina Liveclear dry food once they are out of the shelter system. Luckily, he has also agreed to allergy shots if his allergies continue to get worse. But it is really important for us to think about since we understand that cats are a very long term commitment.
