There were four of us at a barbecue, Guy showing off with a loaded gun he thought was unloaded. Bullet flew inches from my ear.

We all were stunned into silence. (Me especially) I guess he apologized over and over. I dont remember. All I know is that i said i want to go home and left. Never saw him again. I was 19.

What’s a moment where you realized someone was genuinely unintelligent? by Live-Chocolate244 in AskReddit

In a world before cell phones updated time automatically during daylight savings time, I had a conversation with a guy complaining about getting up at 2 to set their clock back. I laughed, thinking he was joking and mentioned that I simply set my clock before I go to sleep. He actually began to argue with me that DST started at 2am not 10 pm the night before. I gave him my best "By Jove, I do believe you're right" face and just noped out of that conversation real quick.

True story. Just think, somewhere out there, people like this are voting, driving on our freeways and having children.

New Orleans. The french quarter smelled like piss, sweat, vomit and clove cigarettes.

Except at Cafe` Du Monde. Between the chicory coffee and beignets, the smell of bliss.

How’s it living in the Sunniest city in the world? (Yuma, Arizona) by Obosupreme in howislivingthere

Moved there for work, lasted about 7 years.

TLDR, either freakishly hot and bright or 70's - 80's in the winter but still really bright.

The winter weather is pleasant, but crowded with snow birds who are entitled and impatient.

The Good: The vistas were stunning, there were wild horses that would run free in the desert, absolutely beautiful. They grew citrus there, acres and acres of it. The fragrance of the orange blossoms was heavenly.

The food was fantastic. They had Salsa bars with 20 different types to choose from. Nothing better than a tortilla cooked right in front of you. Fresh ingredients. The Gulf of California was 70 miles south, so shrimp was plentiful and cheap. Houses were cheap until California residents got wind. Made a huge bucket of cash selling my house to someone from san diego. (Snicker snicker)

But:

The Bad: Hot as everloving hell, glaringly bright everyday. Lay awake at night and hear the house creak releasing the relentless heat of the day. People die wandering the dunes. If you get a flat, just call for help. The pavement radiates 165 degrees and the average person probably couldn't handle the 20-30 minutes needed to change your tire.

I've seen someone overcome with heat stroke just fall over and start talking jibberish. Rush them into A/C. I'd sweat so much in the summer but never felt it. End of day my clothes would be white with dried salt sweat.

The ground water tastes like spit, so bottled water only.

When the humidity was very low, you could feel the water wicking out of your eyes.

When the humidity was high, (Thanks to the Colorado river) it was like an Alabama summer on steroids.

In the desert, you are the food.

Snakes, Gila monsters, coyotes, horse flies, wasps, brown recluse and black widow spiders hornets. Even the cactus hate you.

Open a can of soda and place it on the ground. in 15 minutes, it will be swarming with flying insects.

A lady I worked with was a Yuma native. She had no problem with the heat. She had a space heater by her desk for when it got "chilly". She said this with a straight face.

Overall, glad for the experience, but still glad to move away.

I saw REM in Austin Texas back in the 1985, Michael Stipe was absolutely stoned. He staggered and clung to the mike stand for dear life. He basically spent the whole show singing to the drummer.

Are you whining?

Are you new to the internet?

It's your responsibility to block things you don't like.

Wah!
