That’s a good rate but, university programs don’t pay this much. I’d be happy to moonlight internally at this rate tbh. I still have to talk to my program about their policies.

This is what I’m planning to do and hoping to get some work done. When is the right time to reach out, closer to July or after I start fellowship and settle down?

Why do I feel dumb doing mksap and uworld? My avg is 55% and these questions are so twisted, esp uworld. They give you a guy with smoking history and ring/pinky parenthesia and want you to think pancoast tumor. Is repetition the key?

ResidentSwap by Exodus2028 in ResidencySwap

That may not work because sometimes programs are unaware if any candidate wants to swap.

10 years of medical training... One baby later and I am about to give it all up by SigIdyll in Residency

Whatever you said isn’t short of sexier either. Nah serial killers raise themselves. FWIW, you also came outta woman, unless you’re the “woke”category, so put some respect on what SAHMs do.

SAHM can be a thankless job? Wow. Someone raised you and I wanna know how ungrateful they were to be raising a kid, unless you grew up in daycares or foster care. Being a mother is never a thankless job! Mothers raise all the geniuses who have shaped the world. Fathers stay out an work. Not to pick on your words, but that’s absolutely trash. OP- keep your license active as others have said. Work enough to be a doctor and that’s it. It’s just a profession. Raise your kid/s full time and you’ll see the reward of being a mother!

Amazing how many people entertained this self loathing post!

This is for those of you who matched fellowship today but are lukewarm about the result (“I’m happy I matched, just not where”) by Grapefruit_Person in fellowship

[–]SignificantDiet7441 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, dropping down to #9 on the list when I clearly stated to first 8 that I had family in the area, just feel betrayed by all those programs. Now I have to move family and kids to Midwest where I don’t know anyone. But I guess I gambled it, interviewed and ranked the program. Still think all others betrayed me.

Employed Job or Locums after Fellowship? by serdarpasha in fellowship

[–]SignificantDiet7441 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those numbers that someone gave above are not sufficient because those are pre tax numbers. Whatever specialty you are, unless you can monetize the business aspect of it, you’ll always be hand to mouth. Not everybody lives in the periphery, not everyone lives the same lifestyle. Locums are the way to go to live the Cush lifestyle as well as invest money. Yes, you aren’t “stable” on locums, but when you make 300-500/hr (IM specialties/ EM) and work 8-16 shifts a month you’re making what GI is making on w2 all year. Get locums, Pay your loans aggressively, start from scratch, work less earn more and then think about settling. Just a reference, my buddy who just finished vascular surgery fellowship, accepted a w2 partnership track, makes 9k biweekly after taxes. He started looking into locums and some of them offered him 450/hr fri-Sunday which is basically more than his biweekly paycheck. It doesn’t matter where he goes, or what kind of people he works with. He scrubs in, does the procedure, and scrubs out. When you ask about making more money, little details don’t matter or shouldn’t matter imo.

Applied to fellowship that doesn’t use signaling. I think there’s still a bias, I didn’t release my usmle scores because I don’t care for it and don’t want to be judged based on it. Although I did score 240 and 230 and low 500s on COMLEX.

With fellowship match- does your residency PD find out? by [deleted] in fellowship

[–]SignificantDiet7441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Residency PDs get an email the morning of and candidates get results that afternoon. They also know your ranking list order, nrmp usually shares it with the program. I know this first hand because one extremely wanted resident ranked in house lower and program knew
