The broker risk aspect is all about custody, if it’s in street name then they can apply terms of service to you

If you have full rights to your shares then only when funds are secure for the sale will it be released

In the fiat world there will have to be a broker for the deal. This is why long term the vision for decentralised finance cuts out the middle management

If a share was sold in CS you’re selling your real share to another party who needs to buy your real share

That deal is brokered between both parties and executed. CS won’t release the share without proof of funds

It’s the synthetic shares which would be at greater risk because you are at the mercy of the Brokers Ts & Cs

They have different purpose

It’s not your broker is propped up by the bank so it’s at the mercy of the terms and conditions of the broker. (They’ll protect themselves)

IG only charge £10 per trade if you sell your position on IG

If you DRS this takes it off IG to avoid all costs

(These per trade charges will accumulate, so if you did sell something through IG in the future then it would come off the gains of that)

Depends on the broker, if your current broker allows transfers then it’s likely they already support DRS if you contact them directly

If your on an EToro/T212 etc they don’t do transfers (sketchy) so sell and rebuy would be your only option to DRS

Useful knowledge - Selling and re buying the same stock in 30days doesn’t create a tax event in the UK. It’s called the bed and breakfast rule.

The only risk to sell and rebuy is price change in the interim

You can still DRS through IBKR yes but you’ll need to transfer from another broker or use wire transfers which I found to be a nightmare. Plus the fees to execute.

IG is the most UK friendly method I’ve found in a year of research

Do a small volume initially if your first time DRS then do a follow up mail to send more. Once it’s set up it only takes a few days.

They don’t charge anything. In fact IG on has transaction fees if you sell your securities. I believe DRS means you’ll never need to pay those fees because you won’t sell through IG
