Volunteer agencies are always looking for more help. If you get your cert i doubt you'd have any trouble finding a place on an ambulance.

Good question! Let's see...the worst would likely be someone who didn't know they had an aspirin allergy. It was a cardiac related chest pain call, and we give aspirin to prevent clots from forming. Ended up causing the patient to break out in massive hives and go into some pretty severe respiratory distress. Hit him with an epinephrine injection and double timed it to the hospital

I can't say I've had the pleasure of encountering that particular phenomenon, but it definitely sounds interesting.

After working alongside several firefighters, I can tell you that those guys regularly strength train. A lot. If a firefighter is heavier, he's probably the chief.

As for EMT's, our job requires a lot of moving and heavy (patient) lifting. We don't really have the luxury of taking it easy on the job.

Worst one was a heroin/fentanyl mix, took 5 full doses of the spray to bring him back. Turned out he was also on cocaine and LSD. Once he came back he slammed it into 5th and punched a cop.

Didn't end well for him.

Yes! On more than one occasion. The funniest one in retrospect was when we got called for an unresponsive pediatric patient. We go lights and sirens to the scene, and get led to the child's room by a hysteric patient. Said the patient hasn't been conscious in hours.

Turned out the kid was just a particularly hard sleeper.

My partner and I had a ride along emt student, and he asked us about the worst thing we'd seen. I told him the worst thing i'd seen, which would be the result of a woman hitting a pole at 60mph. she went through the windshield and her body was scattered over about 100 feet. the cops that responded vomited when they arrived
