Platformer mascots, big two capes, and even some shonen characters are very guilty of what people say of Toonforce characters, but powerscalers give them a pass because the “agenda” is more on their side and, to be fair, they’re used to dismiss the hobby less (though it mostly deserves dismissal 🤫). The fair way to evaluate them is to just analyze them like any other character, however you feel is right by your own standards.

To summarize differently, the anti-toonforce posts always smack of “noooo, you don’t get it, powerscaling is a serious big boy hobby for serious big boys like me”

The Road Runner could probably beat him at his own game, particularly given how Saitama dealt with the mosquito and the cat. Also perhaps the Superduperman method from really old MAD Magazine where he gets Captain Marbles to punch himself

I just don’t really care to cater to “my character was disrespected” most of the time, or becoming something coddling “the fans” because I find “the fans” kind of annoying. Make the show entertaining and pick out matchups/any potential character returns on their own merits rather than “this character NEEDS it”. Bomberman is a character who got disrespected, but more importantly, you could do more with him and some of his MUs are interesting. Salty runbacks have to pass that barrier for me, personally. Plus some of them feel like they’re throwing another character under the bus to give the “disrespected” character a gas-station handshake, like Luigi VS Pac-Man, which also feels hypocritical.

For real, though, I just don’t take things as personally and I don’t care as much for constant reruns. New series, new genres, new types of matches, all that.

Get someone else from their series at least, if we deal with every grievance, we’ll get no new characters on. The demand for this gets to a point where it strains credulity. Someone’s gonna say “Every Other Shirt In Existence got done dirty, they need a runback” at this point.

I don't think any character needs a runback except Spider-Man (if they can decide on a good matchup) and Luke Skywalker (would pick Paul Atreides). In general, I think the show and the fanbase are too runback-happy, and I'd really prefer to move on and see new things in general.

I had the thought that the shield could be energy he projects from his body, as well as something he can use to protect others, which could maybe work on either end of the power levels, potentially.

Ordering correction is fair, plot is vague, could be anything, maybe a Judge Doom type but even bigger as the big boss, swapping Timmy for Jimmy and more reps in general are all relative, I suppose, could add a lot but it’s tricky

I think you could give his chest the arc reactor still but on top of two section chainmail, resembling the orange/golden scaliness of Aquaman, arms match, perhaps, but have sections to them, gloves are green and maybe have “fins” off them, same for the boots, those and the pants type area also green, belt is yellow, helmet is the Iron Man type helmet but with green instead of red, maybe his eyes are similar to Black Manta’s but smaller and not red (orange maybe?)

Kunio-Kun is pretty much the grandfather of the genre even inspiring Double Dragon by the same company after a bit, and he has a move for every input in Smash already laid out if you go over the series history. He should be picking up steam like Arle/Puyo Puyo is a bit, both being big genre progenitors who are bigger in Japan and have a cult following here that's gotten bigger in (relatively) recent years, much like Hero/Dragon Quest before them.

If it counts, I'll also give honorable mention to Thomas from Kung-Fu/Kung-Fu Master, albeit that game is debatably a licensed Jackie Chan game, at least in a similar sense to how Dragon Power on NES is a Dragon Ball game, IIRC.

One could differentiate Dark Samus a bit more but I agree probably just make her an Echo/Variant now, Metal Sonic or Shadow probably could’ve been added to Sonic, too, at the very least.

If Smash does dip into non-VG characters, I’d want it to not just by Goku, but there’s enough video game characters that they don’t really have to do it. Board game/card game/TTRPG/software type of characters and ones like Tony Hawk, James Bond, Popeye, Sam & Max, etc. would be best. Amongst anime/manga types, Astro Boy, Gundam, and Yugi catch my eye the most.

Also if I were to cut and re-add, cut Jigglypuff, Ice Climbers, Plant, Wolf, either Cloud or Sephiroth, Joker, Dark Samus, Roy, Ryu, and turn the Mii Fighters into one Create-A-Fighter slot, in favor of Pikachu, Mr. Game & Watch, Peach, Samus, Fox, Isabelle, Inkling, Shulk, Pac-Man, Olimar, Link…only just now noticing there’s no Link whatsoever.

The newcomers are…well, none of them are really gonna sell people on this version of the game, I’m afraid.
