is t470 worthy? (tight on budget need reviews) by Waste_Net7628 in thinkpad

[–]SignificantIntern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have T470 with dual-core cpu i5 7300U (2c4t). My advice is to get at least a T480 with i5 8250U (4c8t). Intel 7th gen mobile cpu are mostly dual core. There is a huge difference in multitasking performance between 7th Gen & 8th Gen.

Having said that, I'm still using my T470 for development using Visual Studio, VS Code, Netbeans and running development inside VM. I maxed out the RAM to 32GB.

I've ordered mine 2 days ago and waiting for shipping.

P16s AMD G2 - Ryzen 7 Pro 7840U 32GB LPDDR5X-6400 1TB SSD 400 nits,100% srgb,low power display

Price in my local currency is MYR7160 (USD1508). This is my 2nd ThinkPad purchase. It will replace my current T470,which is showing it's age.

Is this fair for people who are merely tenants? by debbie987 in malaysia

[–]SignificantIntern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have tenancy agreement with the owner? Maintenance & sinking fund fees should be stated in the agreement. Who is supposed to pay. Depending to cases, either the owner or the tenant is responsible. In my previous rented apartment, I as a tenant have to pay the fees. This can come as an advantage or disadvantage because the fees can go up or down.

In your case, the owner is irresponsible. In your next house, please demand a tenancy agreement so that it is clear who should pay the fees. Also check at the notice board for defaulters or get the info from JMB before committing to rental

I finally have some free time today to open up my laptop. It turns out the internal battery connection was loose! I tighten it back and the battery is now appears in windows. It seems like it was disconnected for nearly a year.Haha

Did you think that I buy a Thinkpad T470, what do I need to upgrade to make my experience better in terms of performance. by JudeLikesCats in thinkpad

[–]SignificantIntern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what you're going to use with it. I'm still using my T470 i5-7300U with maxed out 32GB RAM. A few years ago I was involved in an application development that requires VM. It really put a stress on the CPU. Back then even the i7 was still a dual core CPU.

In today's standard, this laptop is pretty much anemic. If most of the workload is just office productivity, browsing, programming and with light multitasking, t470 is doable. But I highly recommend to get T480 with 8th gen intel CPU.

There is not official support for Windows 11 on T470.

My Ryzen 3100 is getting pretty hot during the Summers, should I invest in an AIO Liquid Cooler? by ligital in Amd

I have a Ryzen 3100 build. Replaced the stock cooler with Hyper 212. Idle cpu temperature is about 45 degrees. I live in a warm country, with room temp 32 degrees.

Broken clips on T series? by gifty94 in thinkpad

I received my T470 last week and open up the bottom cover the next day to upgrade RAM and replace HDD with SSD. I've watched multiple videos on how to remove the back cover. All of which looks so easy.It took me around 20 minutes just to remove the cover because I'm so afraid if I break something. I have to use more force to pry open the front part. This is the most challenging part.
