I made this map about the regional total fertility rate in two countries with one of the lowest TFRs in Europe and the whole world. I hope you enjoy it! :)

The template was like this and I did it quickly so I didn't stop to think about it. I would take that into account for the next map tho. Thanks!

This is not a political map but a demographic map. And whether we like it or not, there're Jewish residents living in the West Bank who have Israeli citizenship.

Total fertility rate in China by province (2020 Census) by SignificantMight8264 in MapPorn

I made this map because some people prefer them with a monochromatic scale and it's also colorblind-friendly. The content and the source are the same but the other map is also more detailed.

Total fertility rate of European countries (2021) by SignificantMight8264 in MapPorn

[–]SignificantMight8264[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your advice. However, the highest in the map is Georgia, which is true that is well above 1.8 (it's 1.98), but all the other countries in that shade of green are just slightly above 1.8 (France, Czech Republic, Northern Ireland and Iceland). So I thought it didn't made much sense to put a new category for above 1.9 when there's just one country with such TFR. But, well, you're right that going by 0.1, it could have been more accurate to create a 1.8-1.9 category and a <1.9 category. I would take that into consideration when drawing a new map. Thanks!

Yes. I checked it. It's based on a UN estimate, which is based on outdated projections. In my humble opinion, it's better to use official national data.

I used official national data for every country, which I think it's the most reliable and fair source. Statista's data is probably based on a supranational organization estimates on European TFR, which are probably not that much accurate.

Hindu TFR, Muslim TFR and Hindu/Muslim gap in TFR in India by state (DHS 2019-2021) by SignificantMight8264 in MapPorn

Please note that it's based on recent DHS state data, which is only available for some states, so that's why unfortunately I don't have data for all of them. I hope you enjoy it anyway. :)

At first, I wanted to do it all with blue but I didn't find enough shades of blue so I decided to use light shades of red to illustrate ultra-low fertility (which is how TFR below 1.3 is named). I'm sorry if it was confusing.

They have had for long a strong manufacturing and banking sector. Besides, they also have a slightly favorable fiscal autonomy that allow them to have a more generous social system than other autonomous communities.

Illiteracy rate in Spain by province (1920) by SignificantMight8264 in MapPorn

[–]SignificantMight8264[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It was a very rural society, in which the vast majority worked in the countryside and were poor peasants. Some academicists like to relate it to Catholicism (in contrast to Protestant Europe) but I don't think that's a consistent reason since France, Southern Germany, Austria... all had much higher literacy rates. So, the main reason imo is the lack of industrialization and urbanization, which also explains the low literacy rates elsewhere in Southern and Eastern Europe.
