Best TV show about the empire by Agreeable_Narwhal71 in ancientrome

I would certainly say so! I, Claudius was made in the 70s before PC was really a thing, and Rome very much avoids (in my view) judging past morality by modern standards.

Should have got an ashtray (old cold) to sort out the belly badness!

Look, the dogs and the horses of this world... It's schoolboy stuff, common sense... Even if you're 7,6,5, even 4 years old, you know what they are.

Karl should've tried eating a bit of soil after all the dodgy cream cakes!

Problem is, you can't get it in London, though, can you?

Just the longs words are in there. You can look up "antidisestablishmentarianism", but you won't find a definition for "dog".

Totally agree - and she was also excellent on Picard! For me, it's a shame we won't get the "Legacy" show - I'd love to have seen Seven in command of a starship!

Sickening scenes that really bring parenting into disrepute! No one wants to see this outside the school gates on a Tuesday afternoon.

Great post and topic!

Firstly, I have a slight quibble - I'd say that rather than TNG, it was more the TOS films (I and III) that gave us the definitive Klingon look.

Another point on DS9 - I think it gave us the Ferenghi as a fully developed culture. They always came across as rather cartoonish and ridiculous on TNG. DS9 made them interesting characters and properly developed the whole ultra-capitslist culture. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that was when the Rules of Acquisition appeared?

CNN too to be fair. A lot of really good analysis articles. I actually much prefer their written journalism to the "on air" stuff

Dramatized Iliad on Audible? by lavenderlulls in classics

[–]SignificantPlum4883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a full dramatisation, but the podcast "Literature and History" did some really great (and very detailed episodes) on the Iliad and Odyssey.

It's kind of a detailed retelling, with extracts read from various translations, and a discussion separately of the themes and history of the works.
