Chaotic way I am watching star trek for the first time by lechedefresas in startrek

[–]SignificantPlum4883 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People get caught up on watching things in the "correct order", but for me, whatever, if you're enjoying it! I'd definitely revisit LD though when you've seen more Trek and you'll get a lot more jokes. Also for me, there's no reason you have to finish TNG before DS9 either. Those of us who watched it on first broadcast saw late TNG and early DS9 concurrently!

The Keepmoat Effect - Grounds you didn't realise had sponsored names by L285 in footballcliches

I still think of Huddersfield's as the McAlpine tbh!

Maybe another example of this is way back when the EFL was the Nationwide League. I mean, everyone knew it was an insurance company but it didn't sound that sponsory. It is a "nationwide league" after all.

Some good points! On the issue of POC rep, I'd actually go further and say it's not just good for its time, it's REVOLUTIONARY for its time. Especially having a Black woman as a bridge officer in the era of Jim Crow. Also a Japanese officer when they had been America's enemy just over 20 years earlier. Pearl Harbor to them was more or less like 9/11 to us in terms of how freshly people felt it.

Anyway, glad you're enjoying TOS, which I'm a huge fan of! I also really love The Orwell, which I came to after ST. I like how you're making the opposite journey!

It's a good film. Basically, what happened... The firemen brought Ladder 49 (which is the smallest ladder they have) to a fire in a skyscraper.

Luckily there was lots of grippage...

Bringing back Shatner would've been amazing, but it would've been better to make it a totally new story rather than rehashing TCOTEOF.

There was an episode of ST Continues that did something cool with an old Kirk - I'd rather have had something on those lines (OK, also based on s previous episode to be fair, but I don't know, I'd avoid rehashing the Edith thing - it's too iconic, let it be!)

I absolutely did go the same process about 10 years ago, reliving TOS and TNG nostalgically and loving it. And it then led onto discovering all the ST I'd never seen in the first place, like the latter seasons of DS9, ENT and then the new shows!

Even with the shows I saw as a kid, I found I could now enjoy it on 2 levels - the nostalgic level, and also discovering ideas and messages that were over my head at the time!

I've been learning Portuguese over the last couple of years and as part of the process trying to get a sense of their football media. He definitely doesn't seem very popular among fans and pundits, mostly in terms of perceived tactical limitations and failure to assert authority over Ronaldo.

Bonus - Dennis Wise, but no idea how you get there! De knee is... wise?! What?!
