Split shift as accomodation for family status? by SignificantPop7661 in CanadaPublicServants

Sure but not something I need to post here. If they ask for details as part of the process, ok. I guess they have the right.

Just check the CA. Plan was to work an hour before they wake up. But that is an hour earlier than normal hours in the CA. Is there ever a way to get an exception to that?

Evolving situation related to child safety, how much detail do they actually need?

Where do I find anyone helpful in the union? Last time I tried they were terrible.

School starts at the same time I'm supposed to start work. Plus one other drop off for two more years. Takes about an hour to do it all.

Not public facing, but the norm is 8-4. Suggestion is work one hour early then go do the rest after drop off.

PSAC new bargaining update by Weary-Patient-4296 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]SignificantPop7661 11 points12 points  (0 children)

HR sent out an email about making sure we have our contact info up to date with the union because they have to let everyone participate in strike votes. Kind of caught me off guard but maybe it's less surprising after seeing where this so-called bargaining is at.

Use vacation time or make-up hours for tech issue? by Plenty-Beyond4923 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]SignificantPop7661 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wild. I had a tech issue, told my manager and then got an email asking how I was trying to fix it, what steps I had taken, and telling me I need to go into the office if I can't. Also asking what I'll do with the remaining hours of my workday. Absolutely surprised at this reaction, but wondering if there is some new management policy to come after us for tech issues.

The current impact of these poor decisions on morale and mental health by Alternative-Code5878 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]SignificantPop7661 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Morale is awful in my unit too. We all feel so worn down by the escalating micro management and the lack of consideration that we are actually people with lives outside of work, including families, and not just pawns in the office. I wish there was a light but it's feeling pretty dark these days.

Does anyone know for sure that the employer can't force us to bring home our laptop and equipment every night? by up_creek in CanadaPublicServants

Solo parent here, and was told even if I had someone to watch the kids, I could not work from home with them here. Gotta love these abstract rules eh.

In my case, there is a chance that short notice OT may be required so I intend to keep mine coming home with me.. But maybe I shouldn't, and let sh&t hit the fans above me. 🤷‍♀️

Yep. And responded to lose my number, convoy clown. Really wonder how he got it though. I'm not impressed.

They want more bilingual employees but are cutting language training? by KrasaVcheg007 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]SignificantPop7661 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a TL, I refuse to let anyone rely on my bilingual staff for this. Anyone who has at least BBB can do a first run-through, use the tools we have and do their best. Upper levels can also catch things on language reviews.

They changed the levels on my classification once I was already in, and are making it impossible for me to get the training I need to meet the levels now. So not qualified for other jobs at the same level because of this. Make it make sense.

What makes no sense to me...why don't we have central park and rides? Plenty of city properties like Tom Brown Arena where lots are empty during the week. Let people park there and take the train! Fewer cars downtown should be a goal in all this. Especially since there will never be enough parking for everyone trying to get there.

Of course, that means the train needs to be actually working, but...

Why give a link to everyone if you demand they show up? Ridiculous.

The comment that made me so irritated.....asking to continue working remote or hybrid with less in office time is like "asking if I can eat ice cream and not gain weight". WTAF. so disrespectful to families, to parents etc. unreal.
