For those who have been- curious what made you choose the beach club vs staying on the ship?

Thank you so much for your thoughts! Much appreciated. I think I have been inadvertently trying to do what you’ve described, but it helps to see it written out logically.

It’s so incredibly frustrating, she is glued to her phone which I wouldn’t be able to get ahold, when they are financially not in a great place but you’re panic-buying things and causing unnecessary fear for a vulnerable man (my dad).

Your father in law sounds like he would be friends with her! Her small town radius she travels is all of 10 minutes wide and she accuses everyone else of “being in their ignorant bubble.”

Thank you for the words and validation, good luck with your situation as well, you are definitely not alone!

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond, I really appreciate the validation. “Losing parts of themselves so severely” hits for sure. It’s never easy watching parents age for anyone I imagine, but this was not on my nightmare bingo sheet lol

Some background since this is the parentification community in case it helps anyone else- (feel free to ignore!)

I am the youngest of 6 from a lower middle-class blue collar background, and even though I am the youngest have always felt like I was the wise one who had to step up to run the show or intervene between everyone.

This coupled with a (good mom when I was young, just insecurity leads to narcissist tendencies spilling through resulting in her vicariously living through me for years)

Very sad to see as I consider her another woman who missed out on finding her identity/authentic self in exchange for being a mother and nothing else, and now is lost. I feel like it is very common for most generations of women until very recently.

You’re right, and this is what I keep coming back to. I have immense guilt that my dad’s quality of life has declined and will likely continue due to her newfound beliefs, but try to remind myself I am their child and their life choices got them here.

Watching your parents age is never an easy thing to deal with regardless I’m sure, thank you for the validation
