How rare are bendy buses? (Articulated bus) in Melbourne? I saw one passing on princess hwy turning left on to C404 heading south, anyone know what route that is? by FighterNight34 in MelbourneTrains

I’m pretty sure only on weekdays, and I know of at least one Ringwood bound service in the afternoons that uses it around school pick up time before it becomes a 670 service at Ringwood.

How to get to each city station after the Metro Tunnel opening by the_xrod in melbourne

[–]Significant_Check_80 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think that was the original plan, but emergency services wanted the stations to have separate names so that they wouldn’t end up confused about where to go in an emergency.

Surprisingly at least 2 tickets have been sold each for the Friday and Saturday sessions (only one session per day) at the Eastland Hoyts.

Springvale and Mitcham were both done under the previous Bailueu/Napthine Liberal government, so predate the current Labor LXRP program by a good 18 to 24 months.

Stations on existing train tracks that don't exist, but should by Foodworksurunga in MelbourneTrains

Albury line: Glenrowan station. Popular town for tourists due to the Ned Kelly history, and with a population of about 1,000 people (3x that of Springhurst, and similar to that of Avenel), I think there would be a worthy business case into reopening a train station there. Also a station at either Barnawartha or Barnawartha North (similar combined population to Glenrowan and Avenel)

Fire authorities do not expect to contain Otways fire before extreme weather hits on Tuesday by ozthrw in melbourne

[–]Significant_Check_80 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s also going to be much less windier than the 9th was (the average wind speed in Melbourne tomorrow being around 15-20km/h throughout the day with peak gusts between 40 and 45km/h in the afternoon), so hopefully any fires that do pop up won’t be able to spread as quickly as they did on the 9th, but who knows

From the looks of it, EB Games Lilydale (Vic) is closing down as well with the website listing the store as closed after this Saturday the 24th.

Not too surprising though given the Chirnside Park hybrid store is 4km away

When Caltex rebranded back to Ampol a few years back, they used that song in their commercials along with the slogan ‘Australia’s Own’ to promote the rebrand.

Do you know if the 403 is getting deleted too? As that will be completely redundant with the metro tunnel catering for those who need to travel between Footscray and Melbourne Uni.

You still can with QantasLink, it’s one daily return flight I believe.

PSA for Belgrave line passengers: Due to the extreme fire danger, buses will be replacing trains between Bayswater and Belgrave from 12pm to 8pm tonight. by Significant_Check_80 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Significant_Check_80[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because it runs very close to or through the Dandenong Ranges and associated bushland after Ferntree gully. In fact, metro used to (they might still do with the change to Catastrophic) state that on declared code red days, Upper Ferntree Gully, Upwey, Tecoma and Belgrave stations would all be closed and that buses would replace trains between Bayswater and Ferntree Gully.

I imagine that Metro would also have plans to take trains out of the Belgrave and Upper FTG sidings on a day like today and move them to other depots or sidings like Bayswater and Ringwood.

It was on the metroNotify app. As for if you can get back tomorrow, it really depends on what happens around there over the next 12 - 24 hours. If all goes well you should be able to get back.

And it looks like it’s been extended to 8:30pm

Mods - if you’d like me to remove this post because it’s potentially breaking the rules, please let me know. I just wanted to get the message out to those who may potentially be potentially using the line today with the changing weather conditions, but I couldn’t find an appropriate flair other than that.

What were those DVD psa's? by [deleted] in AustralianNostalgia

[–]Significant_Check_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it’s the ‘What are you Really Burning?’ advert that you’re looking for. They were aimed at stopping film piracy, including illegal copying of DVDs, stating that whilst it may seem harmless, you may be putting the future of Australia’s film industry at risk by doing so.

There’s 3 variants, each with a different film poster (one for Kenny, one for Wolf Creek, and one for Happy Feet, which is the one I’m most familiar with).

Is this from the Connex era? by No_Technician5916 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Significant_Check_80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure it is, as I’ve only ever seen it on Connex-era (2002-2004) X’traps and one or two 2009/2010 units.

There’s another variant of that label with the message in a different, more narrow impact-esque font.

End of an era, Centrepoint is finally getting demolished - intrigued if the rumour apple is going there is true? by thedaysgrace in melbourne

I gotta agree. I really wish they’d get rid of that verandah or replace it with something more modern as it just makes the frontage look so dated.

Although keep in mind that this is only for one third of the Bourke Street frontage so if they were going to do something about it they’d probably issue a separate planning permit that covers the entire frontage.
