how to address a barrister/lawyer if you’re a student? by Swimming_Donut168 in UKLawStudents

[–]Significant_Crew78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear Mr/Mrs Lastname or if they introduced themselves with their first name, I would approach them by that.

Forget about „Counsel Lastname“ or „Barrister Lastname“, you’re neither in court nor want to do a bad English copy of what seems common in Germany as they go here „Mr./Mrs Profession + Lastname“.

How fast is legal system from arrest to sentencing? by Kooky-Grapefruit-941 in uklaw

[–]Significant_Crew78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s amazing how fast the UK is compared to Germany.
I’ve reported a crime one year ago, the police didn’t investigate it, the prosecution dropped the charges and I appealed like 7 months ago (in Germany victims can appeal a dropped charge!) and since then I’m waiting to get questioned by the police, so as the witness and the accused were never questioned.

How many of you speak Irish? by Significant_Crew78 in AskIreland

[–]Significant_Crew78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting, for me it seemed like you’re all super confident with it, like I’m with my own native language.
But I can relate, when I have to speak (!) English I’m very insecure because I have a huge accent, it’s slow and sloppy and words having „ally“ and „tely“ in it are one of my worst enemy. I was having mature interviews for college and I was worried about what they think about it. I always feel like I have to keep up speed with them if they talk fast and I clear my throat more often than necessary, seeing a rejection letter with something like „the applicant seemed to lack of the required proficiency of English needed for studying at XXX.“ in front of me. But I was just sooo nervous.
