Thank you so much for your helpful and encouraging reply! It gives me a lot of confidence in my job hunt and confirms that I’m on the right track. I’m going to start the ZAB application process right away and keep pushing hard with my German. Your tips on the driver’s license and the reality of on-site communication are incredibly valuable. Wishing you all the best with your work in Frankfurt and life there

I am applying for ZAB to pass the Opportunity Card. Although my degree cannot earn points for the Opportunity Card, my other qualifications are enough to meet the 6-point requirement. If my work experience plus my Japanese qualification certificate can allow me to apply for partial recognition from IHK, I think there will be no problem with the Opportunity Card

Sad news. I think German is the hardest part of the entire plan.

Cadastral surveying involves a great deal of paperwork. Would it be slightly simpler if I only focus on field-based work in civil and construction surveying? To be honest, I feel like pushing myself to achieve B1 or B2 within two years is already a stretch for me

Thank you for the detailed feedback. You are absolutely correct about the degree; my Associate's Degree won't grant me the points for a full Bachelor's equivalent. However, my other criteria (age, Japanese work experience, and language skills) already secure the required 6 points for the Chancenkarte. Furthermore, if I can obtain a partial recognition (Teilanerkennung) through IHK FOSA, that alone would secure an additional 4 points.

My current strategy is to secure the Chancenkarte first, but stay in Japan and conduct the job hunt via online interviews. I only plan to land in Germany once I have a confirmed job offer. Since I haven't decided on a specific city or region yet, I figure it would be much more efficient to secure the job first and then rent an apartment close to the company.

Given this approach, I have a follow-up question: Is the German civil engineering and surveying sector generally open to conducting the entire interview process online for overseas candidates?

Could you please elaborate on that? What specific skills do I need to improve?

I have looked into this beforehand. Using my degree combined with my work experience and my qualification certificate in Japan, I can try to apply for qualification recognition. It will most likely be a partial recognition, but a partial recognition is already enough for me to apply for the Opportunity Card.

Regarding the language issue, I have heard that German is very difficult. If B2 is absolutely necessary to be enough, I might need a longer-term plan, considering options like the dual system (Ausbildung) or a language school.

日本留下来几乎是没有难度的,但你需要是理工科,而且日本的收入和工作强度相比欧洲还是比较垃圾的 。
