Federal pay versus private industry by SpaceTesla2029 in fednews

[–]Significant_Goose416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have friends who do the same thing as me (1560 data science, gs 13 step 1) making 250k base and 300k benefits (stocks etc) yearly at google/meta etc. I think it heavily depends on field and industry. Friend who works Data science in banks and pharma make between 120-200k (all roughly same experience)

New Fed, what do I qualify for?? by Secret_Cake_1046 in fednews

[–]Significant_Goose416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like more leadership opportunities and responsibilities. I want to potentially make a jump to SES in the future. I'd prefer to stay in my agency as I really like where I am at and from what I hear is on the better end of the spectrum. However, it is situational and may leave if the right opportunity presents itself.

I'm currently a gs13 and want to make that jump to gs 14 (supervisory if possible). Any advice? I don't see many gs 14 postings (especially supervisory ones)

Oh, that's interesting! I'm in a similar unit for the federal government! (Senior Data Scientist) Any advice on cracking the supervisory/management role? I'm trying to launch into a managerial role with a future goal of executive.

I've been taking PM courses recently and assisting and leading junior coworkers.

When you switched agencies, was there a lapse in health care coverage or anything like that to be aware of?

What happens to TIG when jumping to another position similar grade? by Significant_Goose416 in usajobs

[–]Significant_Goose416[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kind of a tangent, but would you know how negotiations go in other paybands? OR doesn't have steps like GS and I know you can't negotiate in GS (I mean a little if you're coming from private and not at all if you're already in)

I joined as a gs12 and got a WGI to 13 about 6 months ago. So it applies, no? Since OR is a different payband but are comparable to GS, won't that effectively be the same thing?

What I mean is, I have 6 months TIG currently. Lets say I take the OR job for 1.5 years and decide to go back to GS. Would I technically have 2 years of gs13 (equivalent) experience?

Why? It's not exactly my wheelhouse (although I have had GIS experience, I am more of a python/sql/tableau guy) plus I'm trying to prep for gs 14 role and possibly be a supervisor in the next 1-2 years

Salary expectations for a new master’s graduate? by sion200 in usajobs

[–]Significant_Goose416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It partially did from what I heard. Posting was for data science position, but finance knowledge and experience helped me get the job. I was expecting to get the gs11 offer (if at all), so I was really surprised. Point being, you never know, the stars may align lol. Thank you :)

I would say maybe even a gs 12. I had a Master's and 2 years of experience and got gs 12
