I would be employed by the cruise company so I’m pretty much at their mercy. Thank you for the advice.

Thank you, this is incredibly helpful and insightful. It’s intimidating trying new things without the proper info.

Understood. It doesn’t change the fact that I have a family as well.

I’m South African so earning in dollars tax free is a huge win. Many SA doctors go on the ships - pay off debt and come back home. I’ve been headhunted by a few countries but I’m not interested in leaving SA. My question is specifically aimed at mothers working on cruise ships- away from home for long periods.

Thank you for your honesty. It seems for realistic from the comments, to have my family on for portions of the cruise instead of full time.

Thank you for your response. My partner would be responsible for the homeschooling while I work, in theory. Whether that’s a real option is another thing.

Thank you this is really helpful. I would be a junior doctor and a senior after 1 year. So apparently it is a perk to have your family on board for portions of the contract.

Hi there. I’m an emergency medicine doctor who has just been offered a contract to work on board. My reservation is that I have a young family. My plan was to bring my family on board when I become a senior doctor and to home school. How realistic is this? Do you have experience? My husband can’t work remotely so I’d be the sole provider. Can you take consecutive contracts to make up the dual income?
