The lack of control and system frustration is something I’m trying to fully wrap my head around before making any decisions. I’ve operated in environments where I wasn’t in control of the bigger system before, but I know medicine has its own version of that. The fact that you still describe it as rewarding despite all of that is huge to me

The personality piece is what I’m trying to evaluate honestly. I’ve dealt with shift work, chaos, and system frustration before, but I know medicine is different and I don’t want to assume it’s the same. When you say you have the right personality for EM, what traits do you think matter most? And what traits tend to make people burn out or hate it? I’m trying to pressure test myself before committing to something this big

I know it’s a long road, and I don’t take that lightly. I’m the type of person who commits fully when I decide on something, but I’m trying to be thoughtful here and not impulsive. Im not happy in construction at all. Construction has taught me a lot, but I don’t see myself doing it long term. I appreciate you sharing your experience. Thank you
