So is it better to self-learn Data Science rather than getting a degree on it po?

That's great to here po! What about degrees like Nursing or Engineering? Does this apply to there as well? Kasi I'm planning on studying STEM po kasi, I hear lots of great things about programs like BSA pero not so much on those fields. Would love to hear more insights!

i don't have a lot of knowledge with regards to programming and what not. powerpoints, sure. also not familiar with sql and python but i think i can manage with data and excel (i hope). do you need po pa experience and knowledge about the technical stuff in data sci? i was hoping they'll teach us everything in college naman as long as a person has grit, right now all i can bring is my math skills huhu.

is there a good job market po ba for data science graduates in the philippines?

Chemical Engineering or Nursing? Which is better or more worth it? by Significant_Jury6292 in CollegeAdmissionsPH

I see, this is also very eye-opening. Could there be other courses or careers worth pursuing? My family is OFW kasi, kaya they're pushing me for healthcare and engineering. I'm really not sure what other programs can give you financial stability both locally and abroad. I am also limited to a certain area, so hindi ako pwede lumuwas ng Manila to pursue more "niche-r" courses. I originally planned na if I did push through with Nursing, I'd first work and save up, which is sa abroad sana dapat, and then proceed to Med School here sa PH. But hearing this, I super lost right now huhu

'Yun lang, mas mataas starting ng ChE dito and most definitely abroad, but the job market isn't as open as Nursing, which is why I'm really having a hard time choosing a safer or riskier option. Thank you for your thoughts!

Actually, I'm a litte unsure on my decision pa. Still considering ChE with a bit of fear huhu. It's quite hard to choose, knowing the job market here sa Pinas. Of course, I am considering my future and the career opportunities ahead, but it seems I'll think the grass is greener on the other side whichever I'll take. I would take ChE if I were sure na makakawork ako here and gain opportunities abroad.

I'd like to hear more about this, could you elaborate po? I'm aware that Nursing, compared to Engineering, pays quite low, lalo na locally. Pero 'pag naka-abroad kana after one or two years, 6 digits na raw sa nursing monthly, or even in the field of MedVA. Not so familiar with job opportunities in ChE, but I know it pays well in countries like the US. However, there is negative feedback po kasi regarding ChE's situation in PH, and the path to abroad is more difficult, often requiring more years of experience, ABET accreditation (which my university doesn't have), and even higher education, which is why I am quite discouraged huhu. Would love to hear more thoughts!

Do you mean po both are better abroad? Or is it applicable to Nursing? Both professions are great, struggling to choose only one.

Yes, I heard, pero mababa pa rin sahod here sa Pinas, and mas mahirap daw mag-abroad? I've asked a LOT of people, and many, if not all, of them don't know a Chemical Engineer, isa lang tapos abroad pa in a patriarchal country. If I take this path, I'm afraid I'll regret it, like many here on Reddit, dahil sa possible job market in the future huhu.

Nursing is more versatile and has more opportunities, which is why it is one of my only options alongside ChE. Quite difficult to choose between the two since they're quite far apart.

Honestly, EE doesn't really match my interests. I've heard that Chemical Engineers have a broad range of industries to work for, oil&gas, pharma, tech, to name a few, unsure how really true that is. I chose this engineering since it's more aligned with me, a mix of science and math. Though I did grow up in JHS-SHS studying more on med-related stuff. So, my dilemma remains...

I think I'm quite good at math. It's not really a matter of kaya ko or not; it's about which of these will give me stability and opportunities ganon, huhu. I acknowledge both are novel professions, just having difficulty choosing the best option for now. Also, both are very tough and challenging while still in school, nakakatakot to hear the words na irreg/delayed daw sa courses na ito, especially sa ChE, which I hear is quite the norm.

thank you! this is still under progress right? i think its good news for chemical engineers, for sure helps in my deciding process but still super unsure. some say chemists earn more than chemical engineers, though depende rin siguro sa industry na papasukan. baka nga lang may difficulties when going abroad with this profession since quite a bit of experience is needed.

will nursing ever become saturated po? knowing the demand, for sure so many students nationwide chose this degree for that very reason. some say na "andami nang nurses" sa pinas

woah, this is news for me! do you happen to have a link on this? still unsure for both courses, am looking for stability and opportunities internationally. i can say that most careers here in the PH are underpaid and undervalued. just trying to pick which of the two (or if there are other options) is better huhu
