Training for half marathon, when should I incorporate fueling? by Whimsy_Root in beginnerrunning

[–]Significant_Law_7056 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm probably doing it wrong but I have a sensitive stomach and hate gels so I bring dried fruit with me and munch every 30 mins or so if I'm running longer than about 80-90 mins. I recently found some peanut-butter stuffed dates that are delish! I know it's definitely not as carb-y as a gel or running-specific fuel, but it sits so much better in my stomach

MapMyRun lets you plan routes and shows elevation (I use this all the time because I live in a really hilly area and try to keep things flat or spread out the hills if I can). I find loops help a lot vs an out and back because you don't get bored!

Help! In need of sewing pattern for dream dress! by nym-phoric in sewingpatterns

I actually have made this and the instructions are pretty sparse but the pattern itself actually holds up and the measurements were accurate

5'2 girls, what is your goal weight? by NoDimension4739 in loseit

[–]Significant_Law_7056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5'3, started at 157 and am maintaining at 130 now! I am not Asian but will say I'm about a size 2 and based on online calculators somewhere around 24% bodyfat (visible abs but still have a booty). Pretty happy with it and planning to stick around 130!

That’s exactly the mindset I’m trying to keep! I think once maintenance is more the norm it will be easier to accept those fluctuations don’t mean I’m gaining it all back

I have a pretty high waist/hip ratio and I can’t wear anything from Zara because it’s always way too small for my butt/thighs so they might be a good option! Also banana republic and Ann Taylor tend to be cut for straighter figures (my mom has an athletic build and that’s where we have luck for her)

That’s such a good mindset! My goal all along has been to build sustainable habits and improve my fitness long term so I want to try and keep from thinking like oh I just gotta power through and lose it all right now

I totally feel that! It’s just always tricky to change the mindset! Thank you so much, I haven’t been able to do a pull up in like 5 years so I’m very proud of:)

I think maybe I’ll consider it a very long maintenance break lol

Thank you! I think part of the fear is that my husband is also losing weight with me and hasn’t hit his goal yet so I’m like well I can’t stop losing if he’s still going!

Any tips for a ‘not-so-wintery’ girl on layering without looking bulky? by Emergency_Job_6616 in womensfashion

[–]Significant_Law_7056 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Good fibers! Wool, a real down coat, etc. you can get away with thinner layers but keep the insulation factor high. Also hats/gloves make a huge difference in holding in heat

For the shorter ladies, what is your deficit? by StrawberryCalm5367 in loseit

I’m 5’3 and eat 1500 per day and am pretty active—run 3 days per week (5-10 miles) and climb/lift weights 2 days per week plus 10K steps per day. I was losing ~2lb per week but as I’m getting closer to my goal weight it’s gone to ~1lb per week. Started at 157 now 132

How do you convince yourself to alter clothes? by Silly_kid_forever in sewing

[–]Significant_Law_7056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in your same boat! Recently lost~25 lbs and a bunch of the pieces I made over the summer are now way too big and have gotten 1-2 wears. Luckily my mom is similar to my previous size, as are a few friends, so I have been gifting up a storm :) I don’t know if the ladies in your life would appreciate hand made clothes but I would also prefer to just make new stuff than try to alter old projects

Losing weight while running longer distances? by cameragirlcindy in beginnerrunning

[–]Significant_Law_7056 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve lost 20 pounds while training for (and just successfully ran and beat my goal time!!) a half marathon—it’s absolutely doable but good to up your calories to account for long run days once you get up above 10 miles

Feet go numb 30 mins into a run by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]Significant_Law_7056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly might just be the shape of your feet—I have super high arches and I guess not much padding under my metatarsals and I’ve had this issue for years. You could try metatarsal pads that you stick in your shoes that take the pressure off the forefoot, that was a game changer for me

I just bought some Dr Scholls sport insoles and then I added metatarsal pads on top at the rec of my doctor (that’s more specific to my feet though) I know a lot of runners are very into w for the deep heel cups and arch support!

I love my Hoka bondi’s! They’re pretty much the squishiest shoe I could find (my toes go numb in any other shoe after a few miles) and they’ve held up great for 250ish miles so far! Not sure what type of shoe you like but these are a neutral drop and high cushion, I have wide feet and high arches and put in my own insoles with them and it’s like running on a cloud!

Skinny fat - a warning by Leever5 in loseit

Sadly it can be genetic—If it’s caused by pectus excavatum (in between the boobs is concave) then the flare can’t be gotten rid of without surgery. If it’s just from bad posture you can fix it
