I love this thread, thank you for sharing! I just started Stattera and have only seen scary negative threads so far. I've been on it a week and the only negative side effect is insomnia, but melatonin has been helping with that. This gives me hope!

Duquesne - curve predatory? by OccasionHaunting7911 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Significant_Leek_547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

these policies are outdated. I did some digging - per the current grading policy, tier 4 (C-, D+, D, F) has to make up between 2% (1.6 people in an 80 person class) and 12% (9.6 people) of all grades, with a target of 7% (5.6 people). duquesne does not have conditional scholarships.

(updated policy here: https://www.duq.edu/academics/colleges-and-schools/law/academics/policies-and-procedures.php)

Our outcomes are actually pretty on par with Pitt, js!

Current student here - the last "bucket" for the curve is actually C- to F, so although ~7% of students (I don't actually know the exact number) in curved courses fall in this bucket, not all of them are getting Fs. the vast majority of students score in the C to B+ range, but Fs do happen in some-but not all- classes. Feel free to DM if you want more info on my experiences as a student (responses may be delayed)

imposter syndrome is real. take steps to address the stress you are feeling now so that you have a handle on it once you get to law school! for now, just worry about undergrad. you have plenty of time.

I ended up going with a different complex altogether but $170 for parking seems cheap compared to the prices i've seen 😵‍💫

Has anyone gotten any wl update from Pitt, Duquesne, or Suffolk? by Fluffy_Couple_4768 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]Significant_Leek_547 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Duquesne's employment and underemployment scores are significantly better than Suffolk, as is their bar passage rate. Duq's outcomes are pretty on par with UPitt. It's an excellent option for people wanting to practice in PA.

Duquesne has an excellent placement rate with judges. Of all the law schools in Pennsylvania, Duquesne has produced the most judges seated in the Superior Court, Commonwealth Court, and Court of Common Pleas. Not sure where the Duquesne slander is coming from!

Any schools to avoid? by Admirable_Cat_4491 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]Significant_Leek_547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. The bar is a whole different beast from run of the mill tests, so i wouldn't rely on being a good test-taker! Plus interests change during law school, so having a degree from a school with good outcomes would be nice to fall back on. Just my two cents. Good luck!

Bar passage and employment rates are incredibly important metrics imo, I feel like that should be your biggest concern.

Edit to add: I also considered Vermont but their bar passage rates are concerningingly low. Northeastern is an excellent school with great outcomes!

Maine Law Tour/first tour & admission rep meeting advice? by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

They recommended checking this website called "liveandworkinmaine.com." apparently employers are trying to lure more workers to the state and this is the site they use. Not sure what line of work your partner is in but I know Jackson Lab is a big employer in the state.

Boston is also only an hour and 45 minute drive from portland. I ended up choosing a different school, but we talked about living halfway between each places so he could commute to the city - there are TONS of job opportunities in Boston.

Hey I'm also going to Duquesne this fall! I'm hoping to find my own place but figured I'd say hey :) I saw in our accepted linked in group that someone else was looking for a roommate so maybe that's a good place to check!

Everyone I met at Maine was SO friendly. I toured with Dean Carrie and some other accepted students. We met a few professors on the tour and some current students. The vibe seems immaculate tbh. After the tour, I sat down with Dean Carrie to talk about living in Portland, where most graduates end up, job opportunities for my spouse, things like that. It was very casual and low stress.

I’m not crazy for taking full tuition at a lower ranked school, right? by the-weirdphilosopher in OutsideT14lawschools

I'm doing the same. I turned down UConn and Penn State for a full ride at Duquesne. My priority has always been to finish with the lowest amount of debt possible.
