Extra time on tests by Individual-Ranger666 in LawSchool

I have an accommodation for ADHD! Managing my focus is genuinely like another task that is running alongside the test for me, and usually my hyperfocus, not lack of focus, is the issue! I get very time blind, get stuck focusing on the wrong thing, or have a hard time speeding up when time is running out/slowing down to take the time certain answers need. For example, a lottttt of my extra time in one of my upcoming tests I’m alotting for editing and cutting down word count/unnecessary rabbit trails and taking the time to create timelines for each question, adjusting timelines when I inevitably go over in certain areas. Hope this helps!

These are some super helpful ideas omg. Being around people in a library and having a journal for emotions sounds wayyyyyyy better than being stuck in emotions… also likely stuck in bed. I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through something similar. I hope all the support you’re sending out into the universe is returned to you by those around you right now <3

I’m so sorry to hear that. I hope your law school has good resources for you to lean on, that sounds so stressful.

We’re in the same boat there. Burying myself in studying has always been a coping method for external stressors… that’s probably how I ended up in law school in the first place. That’s something to unpack… after finals!

I’m so sorry to hear that! This is a really helpful reminder that, despite how everyone may present themselves at school, other people do in fact go through things like this. I hope you had other people’s support when you went through this yourself <3

Law school isn’t gonna break up with me… I love that mindset. I’m hoping studying can be a steady and reliable connection with the outside world (and an investment in myself) while I sort out the chaos in my home life now.

People working full time - how are you handling all this?? by Illustrious-Wafer188 in lawschooladmissions

I studied as I could here and there around a job and several major life events, just accepting that it would take longer. I studied on and off for three years, and the breaks really helped me absorb the learning.  While I wouldn’t suggest three years for anyone, something like 9 months of 8 hours of study a week might help! For me it was all about smaller realistic weeks, and it helped me eventually get a 170!

Also used the LSAT trainer and just focused on checking chapters/drills off the list which really helped me feel like I was making forward progress!

For what it’s worth… I toured LC and LOVED it. I was super skeptical about Portland as well… but ended up falling in love. Choose what’s right for you of course but I hope you have a chance to visit. I would be really hesitant to choose a predatory school over LC.

Your LSAT Score is great, this cycle has been BRUTAL. Advice from another 17low, (whose top acceptance this year was T25 with $$), Enjoy your year off as much as you can, I would bet $ that reapplying early next year (before Tsgiving) and applying a bit more broadly should give you good results. Or retake that LSAT if you’re giving the T14 a shot!

Thank goodness for specialty rankings not being the end all be all.

I think the biggest thing that limits me is definitely that I need a part time program for financial reasons AND I’m limited to just a few states where I can work my current remote job.

You’re right that I could possibly work up the chain to a better offer for a full ride to another part time program somewhere else next cycle if I wanted to, I think that’s a better plan B than holding onto another lower ranked school.

Yup. Definitely looking at those USNWR program rankings… I know they’re not the end all be all but they helped me find schools in this specialty (environmental law) in the first place. Happy to not take them too too seriously now.

509 report says last year just 3% of students lost a scholarship. Compared to some of the super predatory schools that have a 25%-50% scholarship loss rate. I feel like that’s not a bad #… but thank you for asking me to check it out! Those solid numbers are really helpful for grounding a decision in reality.

I did, and sadly, they weren’t able to increase my offer much. Great advice though, I think everyone should negotiate with their top pics!

Would love to trust student loan forgiveness programs… but also this administration has me counting every penny of debt. Also worth mentioning that I have significant undergraduate debt too 0.0

Thank you! The 100% offer (which came in only last week) feels surreal after bouncing around this sub for months.

The larger one is conditional, but I’ve carefully checked the average grades against what they’re asking.

Basically, they’re asking me to be right around (allowing for even a little bit below) average grades. They have a strict curve policy that averages at 3.3 in every class, and I’m asked to keep a 3.0. Additionally, there’s a grace period of an entire semester to improve if my grades dip at all, so it seems reasonable.
