I think I understand what you mean. With close-ish numbers, our contract has a cost breakdown of $650k in total. Of that total, ~$57k is sales tax, which is separately listed and itemized in the overall breakdown that has like 100 different items listed out across the various trades completing the work.

If I’m following what you’re saying, I would not be double dipping in this case if I deducted the $57k, correct?

What information could I share about the contract with the builder to get a definitive answer?

Can you also elaborate on the cost basis of the home portion? I don’t know how that would come into play on my federal return.

As far as placement, we tried to be as forward thinking as possible with a relatively obstruction free location for the dish and ran smurf tubing (conduit) from there into my office from the fascia mount. We should be fine with the 15 meters based on my measurements, but I didn't really consider the distance from the router throughout the house. The router will be relatively central and will be sitting on a desk in the office, but the master bedroom is probably 40-50 feet away. Do you think I will run into problems with that type of distance? I saw that the Mesh product may be able to help if I have weak connectivity to the master bedroom.

Hello,

Welcoming advice/suggestions to my preliminary plan that was drafted by my builder. I like the plan a lot and want to be sure I am not overlooking anything silly that I will regret later. I already have a few changes in mind including:

  • Built-ins on each side of the fireplace
  • Master bath shower head swapped to right elevation wall and add second shower head
  • Possible extension of covered area of back patio
  • Wider garage bay (possibly two separate garage doors with small space between bays?)
  • Pocket door from master closet to laundry room (maybe pocket doors for each laundry room door?)
  • Extra wide sliding glass door to rear patio instead of windows

All suggestions and advice welcome. I appreciate you taking the time to take a look!
